While I agree that the witcher is a bigger game the combat is more enjoyable in BB, and since it's what you'll be doing most of the time I feel I enjoy myself more in BB than in Witcher 3 where the focus is more on narrative than combat.

I respect your opinion as well. In terms of combat and overall gameplay Bloodborne reigns supreme. However I'm a book-fag and the way in which CDPR managed to translate the works of Andrej Sapkowski into this medium is pretty much flawless so I resonated more with TW3.

I personally consider The Witcher saga to be on par with the LOTR trilogy and recommend them to any fantasy enthusiast. Geralt is a god-tier protagonist but his companions that didn't make it into the games are definitely worth it. Even in the translations the subtle humor and with of the author shines through. There is a lack of filler which drives down the enjoyment of numerous other fantasy novels. The overarching medieval political themes are executed in a manner which feel realistic. Thinks of the books as a prequel to the video games. No, your experience wouldn't be harmed now that you finished the games. In fact it may even increase since you would be able to visualize the characters more easily. Learning the rich lore would allow you to better understand the background and motivations behind the narrative that you have already played through.

You don't need to read anything before playing. The books are just stories with very few connections, which is probably why the writing works so well in vidya.

I always found W3's combat fun, the difficulty was good on Death March, the only problem being that it was easy to become overpowered mid-game depending on how you invest your character stats.
BB does have better combat, but everything else is vastly inferior to W3.
