Gunpei Yokoi was Miyamoto's mentor, and he was very succesful, having created the gameboy and all, but he fucked up with the Virtual Boy.
After that, it was reported that people at Nintendo isolated him, blamed him, and even shamed him. He decided to quit Nintendo and join Bandai. He was in the process of creating a new handheld for them when he died in a really weird car accident. Yamauchi's supposed connections with the Yakuza made people think that Yamauchi was scared of going up against a Bandai gameboy and had the creator killed.
