Because the Dual shock 3 did not support the PC out of the box, you had to install third party drivers. Sony let the Xbox controller become synonymous with controller PC gamers get. The Dual shock 4 supports Windows now, but very few games will use the X/O/∆/square icons.
Because we aren't children who use tiny controllers.

Dualshock controllers are always detected as DInput devices. The newer XInput standard is what microsoft has been pushing for game controller standard on the PC
