To be fair MK8's DLC is a masterclass and a great example of what DLC should be. It's fantastic. You get roughly 50% of the base game's content (in terms of tracks) for less than a quarter of the game's price, it's high quality, and none of it was held back from the initial release.

I like those because they all have interested geography without relying on gimmicks that interrupt (such as stage bosses or having the stage change every so often)
And they arent (with a few exceptions) based on areas that actually appear in any games. Yet they are themed well enough that you can tell what series they belong too. I find the stages that don't stick so close to their source material are the best ones- even in the newer games.
The Two exceptions are Hyrule Castle and Lylat Cruise but even in those they aren't areas meant for you to actually go to.
