We don't really get spoilers for DQ games here, it's not like the stories really have lots of TWEESTS, they're just fun to experience yourself.
Personally, I can't decide whether to get the 3DS or PS4 version. I still haven't gotten a PS4 but it would be a good excuse to in addition to Persona 5, but I think the 2D/3D combination on 3DS is really cool.
ive never played a dragon quest game (all the way through) and I've literally never been spoiled by it here (or anywhere on the internet).

Probably because it's the grand daddy of JRPGs and created a lot of what everyone think of as generic now. Dragon Quest has always been a series concerned about remaining true to its roots while refining the experience. I thought for years that they were probably pretty bland and boring, but then I played through I-IX last year and actually had a lot of fun with most of them.
This is the I'm most looking forward, even considering buy a ps4 next year.
