Honestly there's nothing really wrong with Zestiria. It doesn't really excel at anything but it's still the same sort of post-Graces middle of the road phoned in Tales game. People like to suck Vesperia's dick around here, but there's a good reason for that. The series should return to that sort of standard.

And it's not even because the main composer Motoi Sakuraba sucks, he literally just gives no shit about the series.
The guy has worked on game series like star ocean, golden sun and dark souls that featured great sound tracks and the tales games rarely get anything as remotely as good as those series.

I see the Japanese have patrician tastes. This is pretty much how I would've ranked the main characters.
The game would've been so much better if instead of Dezel, Rose died. Actual character development would need to happen, her cancer would be gone, she wouldn't appear and ruin scenes later on, she wouldn't ruin even goddamn Dezel's death scene and it'd make sense why so much focus was put on her.
Then replace her with Alisha or Sergei. Perfect, game improved.

Honestly, I really did try to like Zesteria. I really did.
I like Sorey as a character even though they barely developed him past the beginning of the game.
Laliah, Mikleo, Edna and Sorey all have a unique kind of relationship with each other that feels charming.
Laliah herself can be annoying at times but also very fun.
Edna was pretty good for a loli tusndere, also i'm a bit biased because she reminds me so much of Toph.
Dezel was probably one of the best ways I've seen a stereotypical edgey anime character develop. Hate how he died though and Zeade was fucking horrible at every level.
Mikleo, while his relationships with the others varied from good to cliche, didn't have too much of a character outside of "the brains."
The combat was repetitive but looked flashy so it was enduring enough for me.
But the one thing that completely fucked the game for me was the late game story and Rose.
I just do not understand why they didn't let us choose who we wanted to tag along, Alicia or Rose...OH YEA THAT'S BECAUSE NO ONE FUCKING LIKED ROSE. I have never seen a character bend and force a story around her so much. Her mere existence gimps Sorey and makes him look incompetent, makes Edna constantly act out of character when interacting with her. She constantly contradicts herself and no one calls her out on it and the best fucking part is that on multiple occasions she calls herself a fucking psychopath and yet no one bats an eye. The worst part about it is that she's used as a fucking cop-out whenever Sorey would otherwise have to make the decision to kill someone.

Whereas I understand how it was empty and medicore as an rpg, it had a character who solved everything by punching. You need good characters when you play a 50 hour game.

Even her goddamn voice is annoying. Can't understand why the writers would replace Alisha with this piece of crap, but then anons here mentioned the director got involved with Rose's VA. Probably tried to artificially lenghten her stay and pay by giving her more dialogue.
I mean if they replaced Alisha with Sergei, I wouldn't even be mad - first you get someone from Hyland, then from Rolance. Sergei also wasn't annoying, had something resembling a personality, motives - fine comrade. I'd take him rather than Rose even if he was a mute piece of wooden plank, but he was way more than that.
