Nothing, it's a neat spinoff, would love to 'play' SH one for 15 minutes.

Konami did nothing wrong. Finally ripped off the band aid. Good for them.

No, they still haven't sold their IPs

It's the opposite of what a brand like coke or Pepsi would do. Turn their product into a game. It's probably not going to be any good and/or its going to devalue the original

This video focuses too much on 'vanity' rather than thinly veiled gambling schemes but it's good enough. More than 90 percent of western video game market is one giant slot machine pulling the levers.

How would it devalue the original? Those kind of spinoffs happen all the time. How come no one complained about Kojima spending Konami money on fashion shows and washed up actors?

I was trying to say that Valve is one giant Pachinko machine disguising itself with shoddy video game efforts. Same goes for Blizzard. We're talking about implementing skinner box psychology on an unprecedented, industrial scale that makes Las Vegas look like Chastity City.
>>
>>339819523
Yeah that's specifically about TF2/CSGO, not all of the thousands of steam games.
>>
>>339819620
I know. Huh
>>
Never got pachinko.
Isn't it just you drop the balls and then do nothing whilst hoping for the best?

At least with regular pinball you're actively doing something during the game.
>>
>>339818771

>goes on steam, buys game, plays game
>gambling addict now

what?
>>
>>339819728
Every big western video game is designed the same way a Pachinko machine is designed. Even the 'indie' market is chock full of 'early release' caveats and in-game shops.

Hell, even games without extra charge (except for continuous lazy DLC) like Binding of Isaac are designed exactly like a slot machine. Why do you think roguelite genre is so popular? Because gambling is addictive.
>>
>>339819709
Pachinko business is older than videogaming and it's pretty much exclusive to Japan. It comes close, logically, as both Valve and Konami investing in gambling business, but it would be a better example if konami decided to make an MGS game with loot/tf2/cs:go crates and microtransactions.
>>
>>339819967
Pachinko is just another gambling machine, you can call it whatever. And it's the same as the leading principle of video game design in the west today. I think Diablo 2 inadvertently made developers open their eyes.
>>
>>339819709

I never thought I'd see hick conspiracy theory logic used to describe videogame distribution.

Steams digital distribution service has absolutely nothing to do with gambling, you've just convinced yourself that every company must be oogie-boogie evil. That's a huge assumption there champ, can you back it up?
>>
>>339819709
>gambling on free boxes
An idiot and his money...
I never cared about tf2 nor csgo crates, because the chance it dropped something i wanted was astronomically low

While in overwatch the lootbox store is made for impatient idiots.
>>
>>339819756
The core design element is still the same, no amount of added simplistic interaction can change that. It's not about play style, it's about the 'reward' draw.

>>339820080
"Champ", Gabe Newell is a hideous scumbag and probably the worst person that ever worked in video games. But how nice of you to define Steam with "digital distribution service". Is your brain just a shitposting dispenser?

>>339820115
I'm sure you're smarter than vast majority of consumers, but there are rules in places in Casinos to protect the vulnerable (not out of their good will, but because the state stepped in). There is no way to enforce age limit (for example) on Steam and Gabe Newell has a history of trying to defraud impressionable minors and in fact take away their freedom.
>>
>>339820070
Yes, don't quite recall what Diablo 2 did, but I quite understand the point. Valve marketplace is not much different than exchanging your "earned" loot for other goods or cash for games, while you can't get payouts or charge outs for steam currency, unlike pachinko, it's borderline gambling, really.
It's a good comparison OP, i like it.
>>
>>339820445
Diablo 2 was chock full of loot drops to the point players started making money outside of Battle net by selling digital items and gold. The consumers paved the way for the Battle net as it is today.

Konami will eventually make more MGS and Silent Hill games and I sincerely doubt their MGS game will be worse than PW or V and their SH will certainly be better than any of those after SH 4.
>>
>>339820285
TF2 is M rated
CSGO is M rated
Ovewatch is T rated

when you click on a 18+ rated game on the steam store it shows a prompt to confirm your age.

>you will never go back to 2007 and play tf2 when it was about gameplay and digital cosmetics didn't ruin everything

I get physically ill whenever I see tf2 now. Gaben is the worst thing to happen to video games.

Now that is some waterproof stuff.

Based Gaben.
>>
>>339820842

>casino demands ID on faggots who look underage

>steam asks for age confirmation

>>
>>339820919
They are also the reason why facecam people are not going away anywhere soon, it's a gambling scheme coupled by reality tv style idolatry and product pushing through personalities.
>>
>>339819515
Nobody complained when Persona 3 and 4 got their own pachinko machines.

There is, ask Koreans
>>

>99% of channels are covered in retarded overlays, gay ass midis whenever someone donated/subscribed/follows, facecams that take up 30-40% of the screen showing some dough faced faggot or a guido dudebro, chat filled with kids spamming subscriber emotes

The vidya industry needs to crash.
>>
>>339821678
There is no way to enforce age limit in our Christian civilization based around habeas corpus act and if you're an Amerilard you should sing high praise to European Union for forcing Valve to give refunds.

There is a way, though to step on maggots like Gabe Newell for peddling these schemes to minors. If there's a will, there's a way, and a legal one at that.
>>
>>339818771
I wanna FUCK Audrey Horne.
>>
>>339821830
What habeas corpus has to do with it?
>>
>>339822025
Because there is no way to enforce age limit without resorting to unlawful behaviour against one's personal freedom.
>>
>>339822151
Not really, they can just refuse to provide a service unless you show an ID, given the necessary legal requirements
>>
>>339822312
Ah yes, the ID based Internet, an even worse future. Maybe require you to turn off facecam as well?

Aside from 1-2 buys to go Premium in TF2, I never got involved in any Mannconomy/skins/crates/cardsales/etc gambling that Valve became centered around. I just play the actual damn games and design maps for them.

So yeah, I have room to hate any focus on gambling and microtransactions, whether it be Valve, Konami, or any other fuckwits.

>Can actually play videogames on Steam
>Not forced to be involved in any gambling stuff that Steam offers
>Steam = Pachinko

Plus it's not like players hates the gambling that Konami does, it's that it told them to fuck off because gambling is more profitable, safer or whatever. It's like the butthurt the core gamers (80s kids) have when the companies started to cater to casuals and overly simplify the gameplay while killing creativity, but on a different scale because at least with the casuals pandering people can still have new games to play, even if they're not as good as the old ones, there is still something to look forward to.
