I subscribe on a monthly basis when I feel like watching more premium stuff. UPF is hit and miss, sometimes it's great and sometimes it's boring. Ironically I think the best content in them is non-vidya. Game tapes is pretty great but I wish they made new ones faster. Demo Derby is also pretty fun.

They're in a weird transitional phase. They used to the THE e-celebs. They were smart and driven enough to see the future of videogame media was in personalities. It's safe to say that they're the reason behind most mainstream sites are moving away from generic text-based reviews and pushing their video content w/ personalities.
For the last 3-4 years, they've been so content with their middling success that they haven't tried to branch out, focus a particular piece of content or do anything.. interesting. They have QLs (often installed 5 minutes prior to the show, with no research done), podcasts (which I haven't listened to in months) and a random assortment of live shows. UPF has gone down the shitter and the various livestreams aren't often entertaining.
To answer your question, the purpose of GB right now is to find a purpose. They're hemorrhaging site views and presumably memberships, so if they don't do find a niche quickly, they've be amalgamated into the various CBSi networks.

They spoke about it a bit on their podcast but obviously you don't listen to it so I'll explain-
They needed to get some fresh faces into GB, they're not getting younger and it's always best to have different perspective on the subject. They needed people a bit younger but at the same time didn't want the new people to overshadow the old. So they got a new unit and spread out the talent evenly.
Dan is a average writer, but a heavy personality that definitely stands out. His video content (hitman, mario party) is legit great and a good addition to the team. That's why.

Dan very quickly became an annoying cunt (I want to say within three months at most) and his act hasn't gotten any less old. Yesterday's old game show was him running his mouth nonstop.

GBE is pretty horrible, Alex is usually very annoying and unfunny and when combined with Austin's turbo-smug unnecessary social awareness together just makes for a really grating podcast. That episode a few weeks back where they talked overwatch and how "It's OK to feel intimidated by games" for ages took the cake. Is that type of softy nonsense really necessary? It's just so fucking unfun and I can't imagine anyone gaining anything from that conversation. They just went on about how intimidating it is to look at the scoreboard an have the fewest kills etc.
Which is a shame because all these guys are pretty good at talking about games mechanically, certainly better than staff a lot of other gaming outlets.
