3rd party pubs dictate the gaming marketplace. If there's no support from them for a manufacturer, then it'll sink eventually.
That probably means Nintendo has to sink money into a more powerful machine that will bring the 3rd parties to release games on their system. Which Nintendo doesn't seem like they're willing to do.

Just replayed Fusion yesterday. It was linear and had lots of text for a Metroid game, but it was still good.
I can't believe we still have no sequel despite the huge setup for it at the end. Even if Samus didn't fuck over their stupidly dangerous research, the Federation would still want to capture her for examination, analysis and extraction of some Metroid and X DNA for future experiments.

Nintendo is the perfect example of why the Japanese business model is a fucking abomination. Decisions have to be unanimous and nobody there has any fucking clue what their audience wants. Add on top to that the "our little corner of the world is the only part that matters" syndrome and you have a company that can't compete in a globalized world.
At this point, they should scrap their console team. The Wii U was a fucking joke but holy crap there were some good games for it. If they focused on PC and console development they would make a metric shit ton. There'd also be a lot of revenue in porting old Nintendo games to other systems. Miyamoto would never let it happen though, and everyone who runs the company is about as out of touch as they can possibly be.
