I just started DQ IV a few days ago and its one of the few games that's not storyheavy but has still given me that sense of adventure.

Every /v/ split has been bad.
/vg/ is a mess. /vp/ is ripe with underage posters and has nothing to talk about Pokemon porn for the majority of the year. /vr/ was decent for a while, if slow, but within the past year has become nothing but the most jaded of retro enthusiasts treating their board as a sanctuary and lashing out at anything they deem as not their childhood, all while kids who grew up with the PS2 and Gamecube continue to raid the board with meta threads until the mods give up.
Splitting the boards into Japanese gaming and Western gaming will only create even more shitposting, and it'd be hard to even decide what goes where with borderline cases. Does Metroid Prime get discussed on /vj/ because it's a realistic sci fi game made by a Texas based studio, even though it's a Nintendo IP? What about the Wonder Boy 3 remake being made by French devs, or Pro Evolution Soccer which is Konami but blatantly marketed to western casual gamers?

I'm playing DQ5 for the first time. Its bretty gud. I never thought much of this series because it wasn't edgy enough for me when I was younger, but I've come to appreciate it as I've gotten older and developed less shitty tastes.

4 is regarded as the first really good one. the first three, while good in their own right and having their place in game history, might be too dated nowadays. 4-6 had remakes on the DS, and all have thier own charme and uniqueness.
9 is also great, but a lot a content is locked behind socalization bonuses.

The orchestrated soundtrack and voice acting were added for the International release, in part because they knew Japan would buy the shit out of the game no matter what. Guess they dressed to impress for the gaijins.
