I was playing attack on that Egyptian map, doing better than usual, taking out Pharahs, trapping Tracer's, etc.
Still was early on, hadn't gotten to first point yet, teammate yells to take out the Bastion/turret combo as I am already airborne to flank them, kill them and their pocket Mercy, and then proceed to clear the point.

It's meant to cover your rushing, unless there's an ultimate going on. If Soldier, Pharah, Reaper or Roadhog are using their ultimates, try and use it to shut them down.
The cooldown is pretty low though, so if you see someone in trouble rushing in and shielding them as they back off is a good strategy too.

Make sure you boost all the time. Not just to get up to places, but to attack people and to get away from people. Making direct contact with someone while boosting will do 50 damage and knock them around a bit, if you can knock someone into a corner you can unload your shotguns and kill them pretty quickly. The cooldown is only like 5 seconds too so don't be afraid to waste it unless you're in a really desperate situation.
