Why do you guys love this gameplay mechanic SO fucking much?
Doesn't it get boring running and bobbling and shooting things over and over and over and over again? FPS's are the same game dressed in 10 different skins. What's the appeal of shooting shit?
Give me a third person action game any day of week. I have no idea how any of you can play FPS's.

Because it is the one game type where you experience things in first person; it doesn't matter whether you shoot things or use magic or even use melee weapons (awkwardly).
Being "in the game" is a very big attraction, hence the current VR fad. If VR eventually evolves into full neural interface technology and we can literally be inside games ourselves, that would probably overtake all traditional KB+M FPSes.

Deus Ex is an RPG, and if you shoot more than 2 thing every minutes you're doing it wrong.
Doom is the only singleplayer fast shooter in this list too.
Overwatch is baby first arena shooter for moba babies, but it's still different than UT or COD.
The only 2 similar games here are BF and COD.

Happened sometimes but it's always games that would end up better as 3rd person games.
1st person doesn't allow any mechanics like special dodges, or stances or melee that why nips don't like it.
In fact even Deus Ex frequently goes 3rd person for this reason.

On the contrary, I think all those mechanics work just as well in first person, it just depends on how competent the developers are implementing them. Also I think Deus Ex HR suffered from the need to constantly switch to 3rd person, unlike the original masterpiece.
