Maybe on KOTH where everyone is holed up in one place, his heals aren't gonna reach everyone on payload/capture the point. Like watchpoint gibraltar in the warehouse, you'll probably have a widowmaker way up there, a mccree on the other side, a roadhog/reynhardt in the middle, some genji flying around etc. A good Mercy will fly effectively between all of them as needed quickly patching them up. Lucio's regeneration is very slow outside of his e-ability and will only affect a handful of people when they're spread out. Mercy heals 200hp in 2-3 seconds.

Took me a bit to figure him out.
Make sure to know when to switch to balls deep mode. Charging and merc'ing someone for free is incredibly important. Problem is that if you do it too early you will get eaten alive by the enemy team.
Make sure to use your ranged thing. It goes through shield and deals fairly substantial damage.
His hammer will fuck people up, but everyone is faster than you. Gotta keep that in the back of your mind.
Save your Ult. It will win fights by itself. The range on it is pretty crazy and it goes out in a cone. Relatively difficult to land it on someone close by.
Once you feel comfortable with him and have a decent team you should start rolling. Then the scariest thing will be the opposing Reinhardt. Against Reinhardt's watch for their charges, try to hit with projectile as it goes through shields and murder their Mercy if they are meta comp.
Only other thing is that Bruiser Reinhardt is a really fun way to learn him if you get bored baby sitting your fuckboi teammates.
Everyone should learn Reinhardt. He's the most important character in the game currently.

No cooldown, however after using Fan, he has to reload manually, Combat Roll will not work for him (only if he's reloading manually or has a partial magazine will the Roll instantly reload for him).
Alternatively or in addition: Currently Fan results in a slightly longer 2 second reload versus the manual 1.5 second reload. Perhaps make a reload post-Fan take a bit longer than that, 3 seconds.
That's intended to make McCree rely on ONE Fan at a time, rather than a back-to-back Fan combo which allows him to be so dangerous towards ALL classes, Tanks included. With only one Fan, he can work as intended, wiping out the fragile characters but only taking a chunk out of tanky heroes.

back when i played tf2 i'd play demoman a good bit, but suck ass at him. junkrat is infinitely more forgiving, with grenades directing off the bounce and the conc grenade being a fast and free sticky spam in case of close range attackers. not to mention the conc does no damage for yourself, and the trap arms within a second of throwing.
they basically took demo and put bandaids over any of his potential weakpoints.

reaper is more of a team killer than a gun and run guy like mcree. yes, reaper has his ghost thing to run away from a bad spot, but he shines in being able to get multiple kills and sustain himself with the orbs. mcree throws the flash, destroys whoever got caught, and SHOULD run like hes caught with his pants down. problem in theres no real reason to do this, since the roll exists and fan the hammer is accurate enough to take on close and far attackers.
in my opinion he should be played like a pseudo spy, flanking and killing the people that tracer would have a harder time with, like the quickies or potentially tanks, but only being able to do it one at a time. any more than that and he should die.

More like Junkrat is release day Demoman, back when Demoman's primary weapon was actually worth a damn since the pipe grenades blew up on contact with an enemy even after hitting a surface.
However without the equivalent of the Sticky Launcher, I find Junkrat to be a much weaker and more demanding character than Demoman. Unlike Demoman and Soldier, the explosive impulse for Junkrat's Frag and Pharah's Rocket are very weak, they need direct hits.
Demoman has the overwhelming power of his Sticky launcher (his real primary weapon) which grants him extreme mobility at any given time (while Junk can only use his bomb once every eight or so seconds) and massive point damage that only needs a couple seconds of preparation by dropping several stickies in one place.
In comparison, Junkrat's Tire seems powerful in the same way D.va's mech nuke is powerful - it has a very clear telegraph. You can hear it coming from a mile away and take its low amount of HP out before it gets to you.

demoman was built to handle large amounts of people at once. running into a crowd with the sticky launcher could easily land you at least 4 kills before someone puts you down. the problem with junkrat is that there is now only 6 people on the field, but he still has that capability.
5 bombs makes a WORLD of a difference as opposed to 4, and nevermind the reload animation is very quick. you can sustain fire in a corridor without giving the enemy a shred of hope to more through without a shield, especially since the bombs will direct you while bouncing without a timer. add his trap and conc grenade and youve got more area control than bastion on anubis.
i get hes supposed to be defense, and he is somewhat countered by pharah, but the only reason people say the latter is because he actually has toaim. otherwise hes almost uncontested, bursting down tanks, getting quickies in his traps, and jumping over/destroying shields to demand the attention of reinhardt. hes a jack of all trades with his only real downside being health and ground mobility.

But Reinhardt's good on defense and offense. I haven't played Reinhardt for more than a couple of minutes (usually play Mercy), but I wouldn't want to pick Roadhog on Defense unless there was a Reinhardt or Winston there already. He's great on attack because of his high health pool and hook, but otherwise you're not really doing much for your team unless you can hook the Mercy.
I'd honestly move Symmetra to Defenders and Roadhog possibly to attackers, because he can't heal, buff, or protect friends in any way.
