I have everything, and GC controllers are alright, I do love the size. But they're so oddly blocky and weird feeling in the hands. Feels like I'm holding a bunch of shit that was glued together instead of a solid object; always bothered me.It also has the worst d-pad on any home Nintendo console, which is a deal breaker for me.

I got my money back for my 360 since the left bumper button started having problems. At first they send me a faulty replacement.
I looked into the XBONE and there is a good chance to buy one with that drift problem so no thanks, I already have problems with the 360 ones and there are no controller alternatives for me since I have big hands and the DS4 is not supported in games like microsofts controllers.

With a dualshock 4 it's kind of a bitch (it's easier on the bone), but once you figure it out once you won't have problems thereafter.

Also, specifically on the PS4, you have to make sure rumble is turned off, because that sometimes knocks the signal out from the controller to the xim. Aside from first plugging it in to your PC and setting the button layout/mouse sensitivity, you're basically good to go.
The keyboard you use doesn't matter, but I would suggest getting a great mouse if you already don't have one since that will make every bit the same difference it would have on a PC.

What's not to understand? It was small, flat and simple, everything a controller should be. It also had a great d-pad and since this was before 3D games really caught on, that was critical.The NES controller doesn't get quite as much love because, while mostly the same, the square shape and edges would really groove into your hands from long and intense play. The SNES controller had round edges, so that wasn't much of an issue.
I bought an adaptor to use an SNES controller on my wiiU (connects via wiimote) and it even allows me to set the d-pad as the left analog stick, so I can use it on almost any game I want. It doesn't work great for 3D games, obviously, but for games that still play in 2D, like Smash, it works fantastic. It is also godly in Mario Maker and frozen dong.

I opened my 360 a few days ago to clean it and find out why the left bumper didn't work correctly anymore.
Then I found these big heavy things and removed them when I found out they are the rumbles. Makes the controller less heavy which is nice.
The other thing is, I never bother with rumble controller because its bad for your health. You could develop HAVS. There was even this one dude that tried to sue a company over it.
OP here. I wanted to focus on controllers that are still relevant. It's not an all time best/worst list. That's why I didn't include nintendo controllers.

I can't relate to the hate for this thing. It's one of the best controllers I've ever used. It's literally the Wii U Pro controller with a touchscreen and gyro, so it has nothing but advantages.
Battery life is irrelevant in my case because the cord is almost always in reach -- I've always used my wireless controllers with a cord (eg. Xbox play & charge cord) because there's literally no reason to use battery power when I'm sitting 3ft. from the monitor and console.
The size is perfect for my hands (which are large enough to cramp with a 360/bone controller or DualShock), and the screen is super convenient. Dual-screen web browsing, playing a game from the deck overlooking our backyard, playing a game while someone else is watching TV, playing the Wii U on the go without any TV at all...
It feels like an evolution of the SNES controller, and the only thing I wish it had was analog triggers, but the reason they're digital is because Nintendo refused to settle with a patent shark company over the idea of analog triggers (like MS and Sony did), so whatever.

I don't get the hate against the steam controller, if you take the time to get used to it and rebind stuff to your preference then it can be great. Fps can work good as well if you enable montion controlls for aiming (like splatoon). Playing screencheat is a fucking blast with friends if you get a couple of them and play splitscreen. Same goes for left for dead 2 splitscreen although its a bit more finiky since its not officialy supported.

I own it but I'm not fighting game savvy to break it down critically. What I can say is I had fun using it for 6 button emulation like Genesis, Playstation works well. Also played Ultra Street Fighter 4 and Mortal Kombat X with it. There's a coin turning mechanism on the back that lets you loosen or tighten the quarter circle motion tolerance window which is really useful considering how contrasting SF is to MK. However I'm still infinitely faster with Mortal Kombat inputs with a Dualshock d-pad or keyboard. I keep it around for 6 button games or overall backup controller.

The only minus I can think of is the weight and that it takes a while to get used to the controller, played shit ton of MH3U with that controller.
