Let me spell it out for you. Battleborn has its open beta phase. 2 million players. Battleborn launches. At launch, the peak players and all time peak is a mere 12k people on pc. After one week, 6k. After two, 4. After the launch of Overwatch, around 2.
Blizzard took some swings at Gearbox for sure, but the game was a fuck up. Literal millions of people gave the game a shot, and the tiniest of fractions of those people actually bought it, and half of those people continued playing after *one fucking week*. Even before Overwatch came out, the pc playerbase was virtually nonexistent.
It's just a bad game. Performance issues, late moba cash in, marketed poorly, picked an epic meme fight with Blizzard on twitter for some reason which fed the whole "Battleborn vs Overwatch" thing, cluttered visual design, horrible business model (60 bucks, 20 dollar season pass, and you still have to unlock over 3/4ths of the cast ingame). Yeah it's uncanny. I remember an article I had read when it was still announced as a fairly realistic with no cel shading FPS. The number of guns was a massive argument but the game looked neat.
