Disagree, there's quite a bit of strategy in Serious Sam - you have to prioritize your enemies, use whatever weapons works best against them, learn how to dodge kleers/werebulls, how to dodge and destroy projectiles and so on.

It really isn't that simple by late 90s', early 00's standards.
As one other anon mentioned, the biggest drawback is the rudimentary level design, which often corners you, unless you hit almost every shot and dodge perfectly. But that's only in the first parts of the game, it opens up a lot once you get past that point.

Learn threat assessment. Things closer to you are more dangerous than anything else. If there are scorpions about, kill them or break line of sight.
Learn the maps. A little knowledge goes a long way.
Don't use good ammo on the small fights. Save it for the tough parts. The melee weapons in these game are far better than you think.
Manage the pickups. Don't pick them up if you near full on health or ammo, do it when you get the most out of it.
Secrets makes your life easier. Always go for them if it gets you megahealth, megaarmor and early weapons.

they give you a enemy encounter at the beginning wich is very harmless where an enemy spawns behind you. this is supposed to tell you "yes there WILL BE TRAPS". Furthermore, you can still hear the enemies behind you and they still have attack patterns like any enemy. These situation are tight but never really bullshit, infact the last bit where he ragequit can be completed, he was just too shitty at the game.
This point would be valid if the game spawned kamikazes right ontop of you, essentially making healthchecks throughout the game. But serious same doesn't do that.

Getting the power ups on the floor of the first one is more or less essential while, IIRC, the best way to deal with the second one is trying to stay in the middle of the room and only slam yourself into the walls if too much enemies are getting close to you.
The flamethrower is probably the best weapon for both of them.
