How do we save Silent Hill?
>>
>>339697013
We don't. The team stopped developing silent hill a very long time ago when they switched to the siren games
>>
>>339697013
By crashing Konami, with no survivors. Have you seen what they've done to MGS3: Snake Eater?

It now lives in a Pachinko machine.

Suffice to say, I'm absolutely livid.
>>
It's dead m8. Replay 1-3 over and over while jerking off and wait for a memory erasing machine
>>
>>339697013
It's interesting that konami wanted to have western companies develop new silent hill games on purpose. They disbanded team silent for no other reason than this
>>
You're living in Silent Hill right now OP. Konami made the nightmare into a reality >>339699532

We can't. Only a spiritual successor can save it and so far I haven't seen any horror games that come close.

>mfw Fatal Frame 5 was a far cry from 2 and 3
>>
>>339697013

It can't be saved. The peak was SH2, and all on the dev team acknowledge that was a complete fluke because for ONCE Japanese suits didn't get in the way of development, mostly by accident. It's painful to think about how much talent and creativity is squandered in Japan.

We can't do shit. We can make more fan games. I'm glad they're made, but they're often either bad or Silent HIll in name only.

We can hope for or make spiritual successors, though.

Back in 1995 was disappointing, but I have high hopes for Banned Memories Yamanashi since there's already the playable demo and all.

Like already said: we really can't. The last hope the IP has was lost with Kojima leaving Konami.
Unless Sony brings up big bucks and purchases SH's IP for themselves, the series is same as dead

At least you can always play the original Team Silent games, even on your PC:

SH1 NTSC DDL:
https://mega.nz/#!bVUCTJzD!PmnPw4S7fWGyvTjw9S0-RQdk7rRp2BQNuXJqRkZCZvk

SH4 DDL:
https://mega.nz/#!Us1XTaII!cglH0dZOaH5yQEm4cnEh3eyUz4bIf6rACQqcVzkb4Hc

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.

In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.

>>339699257
>The team stopped developing silent hill a very long time ago when they switched to the siren games
This is both false and mixed up information.
For starters, Team Silent did not "stop developing" SH games. Konami literally disbanded the team after SH4 by force, after which the members were integrated to different teams within and outside Konami.

It was only SH1's director, who left the team right after the first game, that started making Siren games afterwards.
>>
It's far too late for that. Hold onto the good memories because they are all that's left.

it's just sad to realize that Konami, a studio that used to spew some literal GOTY-tier games almost annually once upon a time, was always a shitty house of old farts, cashing with other people's products.

Even Team-Silent was a hastily put together group of what Konami considered their worst coders and artists, with a given task of making a literal RESI clone to exploit the big horror boom. Luckily the TS' people were brave enough to go against the requested B-Movie horror style, and came up with something more original and mature.

I was actually surprised how long Konami tolerated Kojima's artistic shenanigans.

>>339702503
>It looks worse than a PS1 game.
it really does not. Sure, the animation and such still require some work, but the tech is pretty much on par.

>>339702585
I've played the Siren games, and to be quite honest, they do not come even close to SH's brilliance. Especially the gameplay is just awful.
>>
>>339697013
We don't, we wait for the next big thing to take its place.
>>

>>339697013
needs no saving

just play the first 3 if you feel like it

I still find new stuff after playing them at least once a year since their release
>>
>>339703306
Nope.

Siren 1 suffered from terrible dub and super clunky gameplay (enjoy pressing Triangle five times in a row for 5 different reasons to start a car).

S2 was a bit better handled, but nothing special anymore.

S3, aka Blood Curse, went literally batshit stupid with "Amuricah, fuck year!!!" ending.

All 3 suffer from poor performance, cant-see-shit-captn visuals resulted by mix of various elements (darkness, noise, split screen, narrow FOV, low FPS...)
>>
>>339701570
>Ewww fuck the PC versions.

2 lacks soft shadows and has nerfed fog assets when compared to Ps2 and 3 has a inch long Jaggies due to DoF effect being hardcoded at Ps2 native res.

Just emulate that shit for perfect fidelity - ever since the release of OGL plugin, PCSX has no visual issues with these games anymore.

Can I play them in progressive scan or must i use a deinterlacer?

He's right tho, and so does the emulated version when you upscale it to idiotic levels.
>>
>>339705023
Never bothered with de-interlacer.
Just upscaled the fuck out of it, and derped with the settings until everything rendered correctly

>>339705032

It does for a 15 year old game, but the PC version is a port of an already nerfed Xbox port.
When upscaled to same res - PS2 version wins, when it comes to graphics
>>
>>339704853
PC ports require a mere fraction of the processing power of the PS2 emulation, and are native PC games.

There was no soft shadows in SH2. That's just the muddy visuals playing tricks on your eyes.
There is actually a small glitch with SH2 and SOME of its fog assets not rendering right on modern GPUs. Interestingly, the integrated video chips (Intel HD Graphics) seem to correct this issue.

All in all, people greatly exaggerate the "flaws" of the PC ports. It's a metric fuckton above the absolutely disgusting "HD" "Collection", and easily on par with PS2 originals. It even has the benefit of smoother lighting.
>>
Just let it die.
>>
>>339707383
>There was no soft shadows in SH2. That's just the muddy visuals playing tricks on your eyes.

No, not really - at 6x Native res, there's no muddy to talk about.
The shadows are simply rendered differently - you need to remember that PC isn't made from Ps2 assets, but rather the inferior OG Xbox port.

It also segues into :
>It even has the benefit of smoother lighting

Quite the opposite, the aforementioned lack of soft shadows which, besides shadows being sharp as nails - makes characters look "not quite right" in dark areas - as the lightening is working on all or nothing principle - either a certain surface of a model is completely shadowed, or completely lit - no gradients in between.

Best way to check is to go to the flashlight room and compare.

> It's a metric fuckton above the absolutely disgusting "HD" "Collection"

AMEN TO THAT!

anon pls, your hope is making me sad.

Konami has spoken. They don't give a fuck about vidya anymore, only pachinko.

If Sony could acquire an IP or two, our most beloved series' would be saved.

alternatively, if nintendo could acquire them...

HEROES NEVER DIE at a price..

>>
>>339700809
Game needs to be played in a quality CRT TV for them scanlines
>>
>>339708745
Nintendo published Eternal Darkness and now the Fatal Frame games. Despite claims of nintendo exclusively being kiddy stuff, they'd probably handle Silent Hill alright. I'd just hope they wouldn't let Koei handle it since Fatal Frame V was so shit.

But I think the ideal would be for Robot Invader to get the IP. Dead Secret was good and Chris Pruett seems to know more about game design for horror games work more anybody else.
>>
>>339709165
And other than that, any modern non-emissive TV kills the graphics - enjoy staring into the backlight.

Even OLED fails, as despite achieving perfect blacks - it still fumbles at near-black detail.

Shit, CRT PWN'd everything other than size and wattage(there were some sweet FHD CRT Monitors).

If you were designing the next Silent Hill, what would you make the big twist be?

Hard mode:
No twist involving "You are not who think you are".
>>
>>339709839
No Big Shyamalalamama twists.

Have the psychological horror take a backseat for once - as it's played to death by now.

Return to its origins of Lovecraftian Cosmic Horror, because once you peel off the Cult stuff from SH1 - that's what it was.
>>
>>339709839
What you thought was a dream was actually real. The twist is that reality was actually a dream disguising itself as reality
>>
>>339697013

Our best chance is to develop our own Silent Hill game using the Minecraft engine.

You the player are just a spirit/god (Metatron?) guiding the protag.

All you've done over the course of the game is put them through more hell and pain, regardless of your intentions. At the end of the game, they call you out, break free from your influence, leave Silent Hill, and live their own life.
>>
>>339709839
your mom is in silent hill and she's actually a robot
>>
>>339710390
But that's just the twist in the original Silent Hill. Harry flat out says that he realized that there was no "other world" and what happening WAS reality.
