I stopped because I drained all the fun I could from fighting mobs and only had building to move on to, but that's only good with other people to play with and it turned out that nobody actually plays Terraria to build. It's a real shame too because that's what all the real pay off is for progressing in the game and 1.3.1 added a lot of great shit you could do with wiring.
The game would be a lot better to play if the community around it wasn't almost entirely commiebox autists that only care about "winning" the game with only a handful of builders being the ones who put out the screencaps and webms of really great structures.

Me? 33 hours, and most of that time was spent in the early days using cheats and shit to grief kiddy's servers. It's certainly a well made game, but it's never held my interest. Too grindy, and the building does not suit my taste. If they ever made a 3D version though I'd be all over that.
My sister, on the other hand (who is pushing 30), who I gifted the game to, has played for just shy of 600 hours. I don't know how she does it.

Buildings have more detail to them, because height of player character is 3 blocks and not 2, like in Minecraft. But Terraria doesn't have as much mods, and crafting items is very simplified. That's why you can't build an automated factory in Terraria, but decorated house will look better.
Combat and exploration is alot better than Minecraft.

I wish Minecraft had something half as interesting as this mechanic. All of the bosses, especially on extreme difficulty, require you to build the ideal map for destroying them. Rather than going to their lairs, you're building one and challenging them. I'd love to see bosses with weaknesses to certain block types. Maybe a boss that can't get its footing on ice, or predictably avoids water to be easier to hit.

I really, really like it but I've only played it with friends and they basically spoon fed me gear and carried me through bosses while I made swastika houses.
I tried to play it solo once, thinking I was hot shit, and died about 3 times to the zombies/eyes in the night and didn't even get to fight the eye before giving up.

817. I like to make new characters and new worlds and go from beginning to end. The game is the most fun in the beginning because you are still exploring shit. The fun drops off at the end when you are farming rare drops to progress, but by that point I feel like I have to finish what I started, or just eventually burn out and quit for a few months.
Have anyone tried playing Expert + Hardcore? Any tips for beginners?
Softcore mode is really casual, I can beat the Moon Lord really fast on it, probably in under 10 hours.
