Sonic still sells millions even when the games are shit. In fact, the Olympic spin offs are the best selling Sonic games.

The series doesn't really need saving from a financial standpoint. Which means they have no incentive to make a game you would consider good. Plus, the Sonic fanbase is as bad as Final Fantasy. So even if they did make a good game, 3/4 of people would hate it for not being 'like Sonic 2' or 'like [x] favorite game'.

Because, contrary to popular belief, trying to make a 3D Sonic around Green Hills zones and Casino zones is boring as fuck and not a good idea. If they don't go all over the place with the tone, another Sonic Adventure could finally be good after all the lessons the Sega developers have learned between Unleashed, Generations, Colors, and Lost World.

Sonic Unleashed was a great game imo. I honestly liked the Werehog levels. My only issue with them was that there were far too many of them. They did remind me a little of the Knuckle levels in the Adventure games.

Well complaining about the werehog is kinda silly since a big part of the adventure games is alternate gameplay. I consider the main alternate gameplays the series has had to be shooting/treasure hunting/werehog. Werehog combines the former, the action and 3D platforming of the shooting stages but now with combos and kicks and punches rather than holding down a homing laser and letting go, and the exploration and hunting of the treasure hunting (that is, if you're looking to collect all the medals and collectibles like tapes and art books).

You can also plug in a usb into your 360/PS3 with the night music, set it up through the consoles music player, and the track will override the games music but you still keep the sound effects. This little difference for me, made the werehog stages go from 6/10 to 9/10. If you have yet to do that, give it a shot. On my 360 I call it the, "Unleashed Night" playlist

They said they hoped it would be the game to turn the Wii U around. They were still happy with the results at the end since it was a low budget game.

Honestly, I still enjoyed the game. It has its issues, but I still found some enjoyment out of it. I also thought the DLC levels were cool too. Wish they had a DKC themed one. Oh well.

The Holoska hub is indeed super atmospheric and beautiful, but then again, they all are.

You know the funny thing? There are actually more hedgehog levels than werehog levels. But the werehog levels move at a slower pace so it feels like they drag on, but theres a lot that can be skipped on subsequent playthroughs.

Meanwhile, the werehog only has an extra act for apotos, chun nan, adabat, and there might be one more, but I cant remember it. Then theres all the DLC acts if you bought those packs. Sonic actually has way more side levels combined with his massive act 1s.

Oh, I know all this. I've done it before. I just think it's a shame we need to resort to this because of a silly choice in the sound design. Not a deal breaker, but it doesn't help the battle music has only four entry points into the song, and they all sound the same.

That said, maxed out Werehog is a blast to play. At least, on 360/PS3. I tried on the Wii/PS2 one and it's super garbage. Only the day stages are worth playing there.

Nope you just remembered wrong. Both sonics get a main level (act 1) on each continent. All of the continents have 1 or 2 extra levels for sonic, and only 4 of them have 1 extra level for the werehog.

The only night levels that ever dragged to me was holoska and shamar night. Shamar is mainly because theres no platforming, just combat against enemies like bees and fire wizards. Holoska is much better with the level design but its just a long level. I remember being surprised by how short and simple adabat night was.

Ep2 did less but thats just because its an episodic game and those sell less as time goes on and the classic sonic autists were making shockwaves on the internet to sega saying how bad it was. Funniest part? Ep2 was a direct improvement in all ways to Ep1 but it got worse reviews. I guess reviewers remembered they had to hate Sonic and missed the memo because everyone pretended to love Sonic back in 2010 with colors and 4.

My theory on why Episode II got worse reviews was that most of the positive ratings on Episode I seemed to be heavily influenced by nostalgia for the Genesis games at the time. A lot of the positive reviews when I actually took my time to read them were basically "It's not a 3D Sonic game and there's no sign of Sonic's friends, therefore it's fantastic".

When Episode II came out, people weren't buying that kind of thing anymore, hence why it got worse reviews. If Episode I was re-released or something like that and got new reviews, I bet they would be a lot more negative in comparison to when the game originally came out.

Thats exactly what the reviewers boiled down to. Its 2D therefore its good. Its solo sonic, therefore its good. Suddenly its a 9/10 because of these factors rather than everything about the game itself. I dont even have anything against Sonic 4, it makes for a fun afternoon game and is a decent rollercoaster, but it just doesnt have a strong hook. Still, the drop off from ep1 > ep2 when 2 was an improvement in all ways is just a slap in the face with bias

Adventure 1 and 2 were both perfect, all they have to do is repeat the formula, maybe make it open world or do what 2 did i do not care. they were great games, they need to replicate that charm for number 3. and the characters should be fun and not annoying to play as, but interesting in their own right. include tails knuckles etc. there must be more knuckles levels. and of course, the chao garden must be bigger and more beauitful than ever before.

we need a chao garden, folks.

Its pretty hit or miss. If youre a nintendo/mario fanboy youll love it, since it fuses sonic elements with mario galaxy like level design and camera angles, music, and aesthetic. Even if youre looking for a simple platformer it gets the job done. But it really doesnt feel like sonic if that makes sense and the whole thing has a very kiddy vibe around it, similar to colors. Its not as fast as a boost game and theres some gimmick levels like mario sunshine if you've ever played that.

Its worth playing since it was the last main game but it wont blow you away or anything. Summer sale is coming up so you can probably get it for under $10 there.

It's always mixed when it comes to which version is better. In my opinion, the Wii U version is better. The 3DS version isn't bad, but it does suffer from some bad camera control. It kinda gives me a headache.

If I'm being honest, Sonic Lost World is an average game at best. It's not a bad game, but it feels like a toned down Colors game. If Sonic moved just a bit faster and some of the levels had better designs the game would be much better. As it is now, it's alright. It's definitely worth a shot, though.

This is the one that always got me. The background was a bit blurry and the stars would move and the earth was glowing, but when going downhill on rails it looked like you were falling to earth...fucking awesome. I liked the levels that used jpg backgrounds more than fully 3D levels like security hall or aquatic mine.
