Pander to a group X, whatever it is, and everybody who doesn't belong to that group becomes less interested. Pander to everybody, nobody is interested. Typically the safest bet is to simply pick the largest group that exists and pander to that. That's not to say you can't pick other audiences, but be aware that that's what you do - you pick an audience. You don't widen it. You pick one group and the act of picking chases all other groups away.
