It's pretty damn light on the RTS elements, but is still a decent RTS, a pretty good starting point.
Red Alert 2
Age of Empires 2 is the only good RTS game

RUSE if you kinda like Wargame but can't get into it

And if you end up enjoying the genre but somehow find these too difficult, try Army Men RTS. It's very simple and VERY dated, but a fun "babby's first RTS".
Avoid Blizzard unless you want the exact gookclick you claim to dislike. They invented it.
