German here who watches every movie, television series and plays every game in English.
German dubs absolutely fucking suck, though it's worst for games. The reason most likely is that a lot of German voice actors learn the craft and first start working in audiobooks.
Problem is that the voice acting and narration in audio books is very different than in other media. It sounds less realistic with a focus on speaking very clearly and pronounced which oftentimes just sounds stilted and out of place.
It also doesn't help that the voice actors don't even know the context of the scene and what's happening onscreen. Most of the time they are just supplied with the lines alone, not even working together with the other voice actors.
