only the ones in the orange jumpsuits, but you get the spike cannon thing to slaughter those. Standard droids can be stunned with a taser and then wrenched to death. Or a close range shotgun blast

I stopped playing video games right around the time I stopped visiting /v/, which was in 2011. When this game rolled around in 2014, I had just moved back to my hometown and was having a hard time re-adjusting. Anyways, I ended up renting out an apartment, which was completely empty well into my third month of living there. I remembered how much fun I used to have with vidya, especially when I was alone, so I went out and got a PS3 that came with DA: I pre-installed for whatever reason.

It was my first video game since GoW 3, and I had a fucking blast. I decided to build a PC shortly after beating this game on my second playthrough, which was in early 2015. Came back to /v/ and one of the first threads I entered was a DA: I hate thread. I get where a lot of the hate comes from, but the whole "SJW DEVS" criticism is such a lazy fucking excuse to hate a game.

>>
>>339634349
Doing the same repetitive thing gets boring. See also: Alice Madness Returns.
>>
>>339634349
Personally I dont think it was that the game was too long, it was because it appeared to be reaching its climax like 5 hours before it ended, and this sense of finality just kept going and going. It was exhausting.

I say fuck that too though, if you were actually in that situation it would feel like that. Game of the year 2014 for sure.

Boring ass fuck late to the party by 5 years triple a version of amnesia

Tedious, boring, far too long for its paper thin concept.
Only a redditor trying too hard to look like a REAL XD gamer would like this shit.
>>

The only one trying too hard is you
>>
>>339635307
No, only redditors trying to jump on the lawl ign sucks bandwagon would force themselves to like it. Igns rating was spot on, but their analysis/reasons weren't.

Not scary, clunky, unchallenging, boring, tedious, takes fucking forever to end. There is nothing to salvage from this train wreck.

I am so happy Siege revived this style of game.

I just wish we had something exactly like this. With non-lethal options. It was so good.
>>
>>339634349
Because there's about four hours of the game where the alien doesn't show up and you're just shooting androids. It's boring.

The humans and androids are fine for extra flavor, but the core fucking appeal of the game was the Alien.

I've played better games that came before it and are more focused on what exactly the niche is they want to tap into. Isolation is a bloated unfocused garbage mess for people who are shit terrified of trying anything new but want to pretend otherwise. Stay mad, redditors. Stick to your shitty triple a Chinese knockoffs.

95% of /v/ likes Vampire: The Masquerade and that doesn't change the fact it's a juvenile, buggy, poorly balanced mess that needs multiple mods to be halfway decent.

>>339637657
I'm afraid the sequel will be dumbed down though.Too many redditors complained about the "unfair difficulty" and the length of the game, plus the "antiquated save mechanic".

But I don't care actually, because A:I fixed most of what is wrong with modern gaming: too easy and too short. I'm just glad that this game exists and no matter how bad the sequel will be, I'll always be content with A:I alone. Played through it four times and 100% it, something I usually never do.

You're retarded

without the alien it's just a boring stealth shooter. There's a difference between the tension from the alien's unpredictability to it NOT BEING IN THE FUCKING GAME PERIOD, which is how the game operates between ejecting the alien out of the ship and the alien hive.
>>
First real RPG maybe that's the issue but i fell in love with it instantly and forever when i first played it
>>
>>339638184
How could you even dumb down the game? It was pretty stripped and barren to begin with.

>I 100% it
Oh, you 100% an easy game and now feel attached and want to maintain the notion it was hard to do. Got it.
>>
>get to the generator
>fix the generator
>get all the way back

>"youre fucking kidding me"

in ANY game this would have felt SO tedious. for some reason in alien isolation i loved that moment.
>>
>>339639007
It was because of the great atmosphere. I usually hate anything even remotely horror, because I completely freak out, but I just wanted to spend time on Sevastopol because they pretty much did everything right with the atmosphere. Only the graffiti stuff was a bit too generic imo, but thats a minor.

I rented this game as a last resort back in '06. I was originally looking for Bomberman Act: Zero

I was on vacation at the time, so I spent 5 days locked in my room, trying my best to explore the world and play all of the side-quests. I had just bought RHCP's album "By the Way", so I had that playing on repeat the entire time I played Oblivion. Years later, they are both my favorite game and favorite album, and I don't doubt for a second that it's because I got to experience both of them at the same time. I ended up putting my copy of Dead Rising in the video game case when I went to return it. Never heard anything from my parents or the video store

There are aspects that are questionable. They give you too many items, and occasionally the alien seemed to impossibly know where you were. But the amount of times that happened in my 25 or so hours of playtime were so small it didn't bother me at all, and I'm always an item hoarder anyway so I kind of ignored items until I really needed them in the late-game, which in retrospect was I think the best way to experience the game.

If they do a sequel it will have to be very very smartly directed. I'd be okay with a little more shootybang, similar to the advancement from Alien to Aliens, but they need to be careful. I just want them to maintain the tension. Give you more tools, but keep them scarce, make the aliens a foe that can be killed, but not easily, maybe? I'm honestly not sure how you could do a sequel to this game and expand on it without it just being the same thing.

But Alien Isolation is arguably GOTY 2014 and one of the best games of the past few years. Just because IGN found it too difficult doesn't mean /v/ doesn't love it.
>>
>>339644702
Was that IGN's complaint? I know a lot of people felt that the alien was unfairly difficult to avoid, but then their are people who say it's AI was bad, or it was really easy to cheese, and then a lot of bad reviews that just said the game was too long and dragged out, which is the only critique I kinda agree with, but I enjoyed the content so much, I didn't mind it lasted so long.

Yes. If you watch Alien and then play this you will appreciate how much effort they put into replicating it in video game form. They even put the game intro through a VHS player to give it that old noise shit used to have back in the day.

Its because its boring as fuck, has dog shit dialogue/characters and the worst animations of all time.
>>
>>339645636
>Alien doesn't climb walls

This isn't an Aliens game, this is an Alien game. CA went out of their way to pretty much ignore Cameron's action-sequel in favour of playing up the fact that the original alien was played by a big Brazilian guy and was usually standing.

>the plot is retarded

What was wrong with the plot? It's pretty decent, you actually have a motivation to be on the station, then a motivation to try and leave
>>
>>339631424
Dunno what's your point since I'm pretty sure /v/ agrees that Alien: Isolation was GOTY2014
>>
>>339645636
Your bait has hooked me. It doesn't have specific animations for climbing walls, no, but it doesn't ever really need to do so to reach your slow ass on the ground, so? It absolutely does not stalk only you. There are huge rooms full of people it kills. The rest is just suspension of disbelief. It pops up at random because it happens to show up. Not because its "looking for you". And plot? It's got some neat lore shit, but the plot was about as good as you could expect moment to moment for a horror game where you're alone the whole time and the objectives are mostly turning machines on. Sorry you didn't like it dude
>>
>>339631424
>being so insecure you have to say fuck you

>>
>>339646670
>It pops up at random because it happens to show up. Not because its "looking for you"

Well to play double's advocate here. It technically does sort of follow you since the alien is scripted to to some extent home in on your position. If it wasn't that way, as soon as you got past the alien it would be complete cakewalk. Honestly once you get that trick down, of just getting past him and moving on quickly, it'll be difficult for him to catch up.
>>
>>339646938

Fuck you
>>
>>339646670
No, it stalks you by the stupid game mechanic that has the taimer in every room. If you exceed the taimer limit then Alien spawns with the same sound. There is nothing random about it. It can be anywhere on the giant ship but instead it choses to be in the same room with you?
If makes SOUNDS. It alerts you to its presence. Thats stupid.
Plot is ridiculous shit from the start where they had to go in EVA suits with some dumb out of place bitch who was wearing glasses in the future in the space suit.
I could shit on it all day but i already forgot all about this game because there was nothing to remember. It just like Dead Space - go and fix this to open this and then go and take this to fix this to open this and open this and push this button and then again watch cutscene and pretend that you scared of this cartoonish alien and then again push button so something would happen. It was all about buttons and doors, buttons and doors
