It's just a game unless you're trying to gold trophy and three star all the races in all the modes. It took me WEEKS to finally complete mirror mode because the AI pulls off bullshit moves and getting gimped in itemsand now I have to do it all again in 200cc. When you try to perfect or master the game, it becomes more than just a game imo.
