Just finished this game after avoiding it for years over its generic looks.
>>
Well? Did you enjoy it?
>>
Go on
>>
>>339607952
Well, what'd you think of it?
Key question: did you roleplay as Walker or self-insert into him? From what I've seen, most people who do #1 enjoy the game a lot and people who do #2 end up disliking it.
>>
was it as generic as it looked?
>>
The story is more interesting than the usual muh cinematic experience hypetrash but the gameplay is just as uninteresting as in the typical Naughty Dog game
>>

>>339608076

I enjoyed it alright but felt it was too short. Taken me awhile to get used to the controls but playing through the whole game made me feel like it could have been hinting to something far bigger like Spec Ops: the line was a demo. I loved how it was basicly Full Metal Jacket the same and how it actually made me care about the Npcs in a new way. The part where I burned all the civilians alive actually made me feel cold in my chair going "oh fuck...oh fuck" and the same went for the other guy getting hung. I also never got a full understanding of the story, which has its merits too. It was just a snack to something greater but I was sad that it was so anti-climatic.

It was great but I wanted more, about 20 minutes ago I finished it and the ending gave me blue balls.
>>
>>339608375
That's not something I can disagree with.
I fucking loved the game, more so because of C3-bu, but the gameplay was the definition of a generic cover-based shooter.
>>
>>339608164
I did number 1 first but slowly I realized how much more angrier with a lust for violence. After the burning the civilians bit I identified more as the last human part of Walker quietly trying to blunt his fuck ups but ultimately powerless.
>>
>>339608174
The set scenes and overall "Only less shitty choice" situations saved it from being something forgettable like a battlefield single player campaign.

The choices I made.
>Let the soldier survive
It bit me in the ass soon after.
>killed the hanging Soldier over the civilian
I thought long on that one weighting their crimes but the Soldier cost the lives of the guys family.
>Shot Rigs
>Scared the crowd that hung the team member
>Ending : Killed myself
I legit thought by the end Walker was insane all along.
>>
>>339607952
it's Ok anon, you never considered you could stop playing at any time.

You are still a good person.
>>
>>339609462
Man, the two hanging guys choice had me stop playing for a week.
I just got there, looked up, closed the game and walked away from my PC.
>>339609550
I don't like the "stop playing" thing.
I view Spec Ops as a story of a man trying to become something he isn't and paving the road to hell with his own good intentions, not a meta jab at videogames.

>Man, the two hanging guys choice had me stop playing for a week.

there are more choices than the ones you think there are, you can shoot at the ropes, or just walk away.

>I don't like the "stop playing" thing.

Nobody does, but nobody is forcing you to take those decisions either so... yeah it's a shitty argument, but it's a point the devs where tryign to make, how you always go for the objectives in video games without considering what that could mean.
>>
>>339607952
I think the whole PTSD plot and the themes in general of the game would have been a lot more impressive if the game had less enemies. 3 or 4 enemies that could kill you and be killed with a few shots would have been better than waves of bullet sponge soldiers

This anon here.
If Spec Ops had Red Orchestra-like gameplay it would be amazing.
>>
>>339610651
I'd like a "remake" of spec ops in Arma III.
>>
>>339610585
Thanks I'll give them a watch. Extra credits have hit and miss videos.

What did you think about the gunplay? Every weapon acting different and used for different purposes and tactics.
>>
>>339611803
I liked how limited ammo really was and in my opinion the M9 was one of the most useful guns in the game, followed by the ak-47. The higher tier of weapons being introduced at the mid point of the game made sense. The gunplay wasn't a fault .
>>
>>339612561
The ammo wasn't limited, or I'd rather say, they force you to kill NPC's to keep getting ammo, but they don't give you so much ammo on the maps themselves allright.

As the game goes on the "executions" keep getting more and more brutal, but you need to do them if you want to get the amo.

It's clever.
>>
>>339607952
The aquarium section was hype as fuck

Nice blogpost

Check this 7 btw

>As the game goes on the "executions" keep getting more and more brutal
Start of the game
>Tango down
>Target eliminated
End of the game
>THAT FUCKER IS DEAD
>KILLED THAT BASTARD

>The last level of the Aquarium where on of the enemies drops the AA12 with explosive rounds.

Wish I could have gone another level or 2 with that beast before I get all my weapons taken from on an escort mission.
>>
>>339610106

I like how it seems like everyone handled the two hanging guys differently. Personally I didn't feel like choosing and shot the snipers instead.
>>
>>339613443
>I didn't feel like choosing

but then

> shot the snipers instead.

so you choose.

I killed everyone, the snipers and the hanging guys.
>>
>>339613443
I tried that but kept getting killed over and over.
>>339612902
Ya i avoided executing people and preferred to shoot them in the head than make them suffer. The ammo was limited if you favored a weapon like the M4 which on average had 14 bullets in it, which is why i preferred the M9.

what?

In the Extra Credits video, there's a magazine titled "IBM Gamer" in the style of the "PC Gamer" magazine. IBM was a company that made the first PC-type computers.

I think I missed something about the experience of this game, because when I got to the white phosphorous area I tired to look for another route or way, because it was evident to me that all those people where civilians, but the game wouldn't let me go through if I didn't shoot the bloody thing.

Yeah yeah I know, I could have stopped playing, but that part was not made in a clever way, at least not to me, and when the video played with a shocked Walker "oh no those were civilians" I was all like "no shit sherlock", so most of the impact was lost to me, but maybe because of that I immediately understood the point the devs were trying to make with that scene.

You will do anything the game tells you to no matter the consequences, even if you know it's wrong.

Maybe it's irrelevant for this, but I always do the "evil" or "renegade" or "dark side" moral choices in all the games because it's more fun to me, and the best game to point anything bout that was KOTOR 2 through Kreia.
>>
>>339614323
oh
>>
>>339614716
as I said here >>339614845
KOOR 2 played going Dark Side makes a lot of good points on that respect, even if it's not as refined as Spec Ops.

She does too on the Light side, but I never found those as impactful.

Does anyone has that screen when Atton says something like

>For normal people the Jedi and the Sith are the same, just too religious groups with too much power.

I highly recommend to play the restoration mod version.
>>
>>339613103
at the end you even stop firing at them but you kill them y punching or stomping or kicking them in the face.
>>
>>339613103
>>339616171

the game even puts the faces of your companions on the executions.
>>
>>339608164
>Key question: did you roleplay as Walker or self-insert into him? From what I've seen, most people who do #1 enjoy the game a lot and people who do #2 end up disliking it.

Exactly this. People take the game too personally via self-inserting and thus get extremely salty about being forced to use the white phosphorous. And when the devs said "turning off the game is a possible ending" they were blatantly making fun of the oversensitive faggots who turned off the game in playtesting.

My response to the "we should have had a choice" is always this: let's think hypothetically. Let's say you were given the choice to not use WP, the choice to not hijack the water truck, the choice to do good every time. You know what would have happened if that were the case? We'd get another typical COD-style "oh, you're a hero Walker! You saved Dubai!" bullshit ending. A story that's been repeated countless times in vidya. Military man enters foreign country, military man saves the day. Fuck that.
