Just a good practice left over from playing games that didn't hold your hand with excessive regeneration/healing options. Though, you'd still end up finishing the game with a few dozen unused Elixirs in your inventory.

Hoping a developer puts a quest or useful bit of information on a random or somewhat inconspicuous NPC isn't a bad thing.

Well right now I'm playing witcher blood and wine and some of my old ocd kicked back.
Whenever I switch weapon, I have to to equip the weapon 4 times back and forth.
If I talk to a npc and there a 4 dialog line, I have to pick the 4th line.
That goes for pretty much any games I play.

I think you are trying to assume the rol of your character by making a woman because it make sence that a delicate and more skilfull would prefer ranged combat, i woldnt make an oaf to be sneaky or ranged
