NS1 is my all time favorite game and Flayra seemed decent during all this time but that post is silly at least. He even types out his belief isn't that video games creates real-world violence. Unless the dev/publisher owned the distribution service, that wasn't an option prior to Steam.

This isn't simply banning a unique, specialized account for the game, it's banning an entire marketplace profile that has a history of usage with numerous other products.
The fact that this history is there also means the devs can look it up and selectively ban those who post inflammatory messages about their products in unrelated forums or even merely played a game they politically disagree with.
That was also not possible prior to Steam.
