Any word that they've allowed anymore retail games to be put on gog now? They should do the same for steam as well because I got an old Doom 3 and Farcry 1 disc that are scratched to hell and back. It'd be nice to get onto one of these accounts as backup.

IT'S HAPPENING
Steam confirmed for shutting the fuck down!
It is just as the great Rabbi Gay Ben foretold, when Steam was ready to be shut down, Valve would work with publishers and whatnot to provide users with non-Steam versions of their games. Holy shit, I can't believe it's happening!

The devs participating know that people will unlikely rebuy their game on another site and so they don't mind GOG offering that service. And GOG only wants more potential customers who end up buying games there.

>>339596378
Hang on, at least some of these games predate Steam, which makes them already free of Steam's DRM. I don't get it. I thought this service would be for games that require Steam to be installed to run.
You can already run the 'Steam version' of Unreal without Steam, so what's this all about?

>>
>>339602215
>>339602393
Believe me, I appriciate the ability to install it without the cancer that is Steam but the game doesn't need to be installed a second time. You can copy the game files to another computer (without Steam) and it will work. Unreal Gold is a 100% DRM-free game even if you buy it on Steam.

Basically my point is, to make use of this new GOG thing some sucker would have had to buy the game on Steam once before and downloaded the DRM-free files. Running extra software so he can install the game without reinstalling Steam (rather than just restoring from his own personal backups) seems daft as. I see no benefit, and I say this as a Steam hater.
>>
>>339603621

>Hey folks, if you're having trouble importing your games – try setting your Steam account settings to public, not private. This should help at least in some cases!

it can help and they implemented it like one of these crawlers who summarizes the total worth of your steam account, so it should only work with public.

I'll be needing sauce on that, m8

Different things that work in a different way. One requires the CD key the other requires a steam account with a game activated on it. I guess not many people have their old cd keys and since almsot every pc game nowadays comes with keys for steam this is a more inteligent way of doing "reclaim"
>>
>>339596795
>He can't get Ubisoft games on GOG in the first place
This scenario would literally never happen, you'd need to be playing different games.
>>
I'm trying to redeem VH Final Cut, but there's no CDKey for van helsing final cut in my steam library, and you need the key to redeem a DRM free copy on gog

They are doing this to dismantle Steam's monopoly.

valve would do the same thing if CDProjekt had the monopoly, the objective is to get people to switch providers.

People who already have games on Steam can try GOG platform without paying any money to GOG. If people will like it, they'll start buying games through GOG instead of Steam.

This isn't playing nice with each other.
If it was: You'd get a steam copy for your GOG games.
This is all GOG trying to be awesome.
Definitely a step in the right direction.

Not really. People already own the games so it's not like they're losing a sale by giving the games away. The only stand to gain a potential customer.
>>
>>339610413
you know i like the idea behind GOG but Steam is whole another league.

between gayben's marketplace carrousel and sjw abandonware reseller who barely sells old games anymore i'd just stay on Steam

Thank you

Finally. I have tons of games on steam I never bothered to play because when I remember having to log into that bloat client, trying to remember my password (because of course it forgets the stored one after a month or so), downloading another 100 MB of bloat, being told that my internet connection is down, that my steam client is already running, then being nagged for a phone number to finally be allowed to download my fucking game, I lose all motivation and just download something else off gog or gamersgate.

I hate GOG because it always says Library [1] and I can't figure out how to get rid of it. I've clicked every game but to no avail.

>>
>>339612423
If you actually have nothing that is new/updated in your library (the little blue dot), just keep your library open in a tab for a few minutes. That usually fixes it for me.
>>
>>339612607
If it's a number by Library under Account, it should mean a game needs an update. Check the upper left corner of the pictures of all the game covers, there should be text that says something like "My Collection ([# of games], x updated)" if you click that you should be able to filter to games that have updates available
>>
>>339612423
Speaking of updates, where can I find what exactly was updated for the game? Like a changelog or something?

Haha, they are a company it's not them being cool either, they want the steam audience, and what does the steam audience likes more than cheap games? Free games.

Free games they already "own".

I dont hold that against them.
It's like Microsoft with crossplay. Sure, microsoft is only doing it because they're desperate, but they're doing it and that's what matters.

But this isn't going to make me switch to GOG ever, chances are I'm just gonna share my GOG account with poorass friends

Hopefully they increase the number of games. GOG always offered to complete bundles without charging for games you already had, but since my library is fragmented I could never truly benefit from it and had to pass on many otherwise great deals.

Sneaky fuckin slavs doing it again.
I've been using GoG Galaxy for a long time already, I think I'll use that change nonetheless.
Especially because I have no nosey friend on my GoG client that get on my nerves asking questions about the games I play.
I found myself going offline in Steam while playing games there, because I kept getting interrupted.
This shall further my social exclusion even more!

you're dumb for thinking this

aside from the fact that they say on the damn page they can revoke the game on gog for it not being in your steam library, why in the FUCK would someone pay for a game then refund it to get it for free when they can just go to a torrent site and download it for less trouble?
>>
>>339615212
This is typical whenever GOG does something that gets a lot of traffic. At least this time the website loads, normally we'd all just be stuck on watching a blank tab with Connecting...

So does this mean I won't get my GoG DRM free versions? Okay I guess, FTL and Shadowrun Returns are okay on steam.

There is nothing to be willing about.Gog are literally going to gobble up those copies from their own pockets. It is like giving you free and better versions of those games if i may add.

Is this GOG just basically giving up and submitting the their Valve overlords?
I'd be okay with it if it meant that at least some Steam users would be tempted to play games outside that DRM husk of shit, but knowing the type of people who use Steam they'd probably won't do it out of fear that none of their "friends" would see "Faggot is now playing Shit Game" pop up on their desktop.

>>
>>339617572

>>
>>339617480
You're essentially giving GoG permission to look at your steam games and give you the games that you're eligible for. They don't get your password and I don't believe they get your account name (the one you sign in with).
>>
>>339617532
Steam has the monopoly so sites like GOG or Origin need to give people free shit in order to convince them to try their products.
>>
i think the GoG loyalty discount was like 1 buck cheaper than Steam for Witcher 3 at launch

meanwhile GMG was undercutting everybody by like $20 cheaper thanks to "AUTHORIZED DISTRIBUTOR" willing to settle for less jewgolds (Bandai-namco, who were still pissed at CDRed for stripping SecuROM out of Witcher 2 thereby rendering all the money they paid to license SecuROM rootkit package a waste?)
>>
>>339617532
There's nothing about submitting. GOG's offers are always more enticing if you've already got many games on it (as I said before, unlike Steam when they have bundles they don't make you pay for games you already own) so this should work in their favour.
GOG giving up would be them selling Steam keys.
