Playing Brave Exvius lately. Never expected a mobile game to have such a good soundtrack.

I hate you.
I hate you so fucking much right now.
I detest mobile games, and I hate the idea of encouraging them at all by giving them a download.
But god damn just listening to the beginning of this has forced me to give it a try.

FF has great music.
13s music was one of the best things about that game.

This is fantastic.

Say whatever you want about the FF franchise but it probably has the best music of any vidya franchise.

CT and CC disagree with you highly.

It's actually a pretty good game. Unlike Record Keeper, it's not just a nostalgia trip; it has it's own cliche FF story and characters.
And bosses can be taken out even with weaker teams using the right strategy.
Also a thing to note is not to worry too much about the rarity of a character too much. For example, if you want a 5-star Cecil but pull a 3-star, don't reroll; you can upgrade the 3-star to 5-star using materials that drop in-game. And unlike other games, a 3-star upgraded to 5-star is identical to a natural 5-star; they aren't inferior in any way.

I don't think there's a series out there that has consistently had music as good as this one, even across different composers.

If this gets ported to PC at some point. I don't have a smart phone unfortunately, but WOW. That soundtrack is fantastic! And based on what >>339560171 describes it sounds like a fantastic game.

>ported to PC
Just get an Android emulator. I use Nox App Player myself, but I hear some people have sound issues with it so you may need to shop around and try a few different ones.

Oh yeah, I forgot Android emulation was a thing. I'd still prefer a proper port, but I might play it then. Thanks for the info m8.

For anyone trying global Brave Exvius, register here too and grab some points: https://www.finalfantasyexvius.com/register/

It's up to the last milestone already, meaning we already get Magitek Armor Terra, 3 Elixirs, 5000 friend points (25 FP summons), 500 Lapis (1 premium summon), 5 Phoenix Downs, and 10,000 gil.
If we can hit that last milestone, that'll give us 10 premium summon tickets. That's 1 summon per ticket.

is there an english version of this game out yet? or just japanese?

11 had the best music.

English version is in a beta/soft-launch phase at the moment. Can't download through the app store unless you're in Sweden or some shit, but you can download the apk online and they've confirmed there'll be no data resets from now on so you can download and get a head start if you want. Or just spend the time pre-launch rerolling for the character you want.
Full launch is estimated to happen at E3 since the game is apparently due to be there and we all know everyone loves a good "it's available right now" moment.

FF music has always been great, even with the shit games where the only saving grace IS the music (FFXIII comes to mind). Shit, even X-2 had some great tracks, even though the battle system was really good.

Not sure if anything can ever top the original Battle on the Big Bridge though. For a game that originally never got released out of Japan, that sure became iconic for the franchise.

On a technical level, FFVI is the most remarkable of them all, going by classically trained composing or theoretical skills. But it's not the most stylistic. It's not even my favorite soundtrack of the FF series.

I like to think of FFVIII as the time Uematsu was polishing his arranging skills since FFVII was a bit more basic work, but it also gets sloppy in some places. FFIX is actually where he gets pretty good at that part.

I never thought of Uematsu as being highly versatile compared to someone like Mitsuda, though. I like to think he was trying to spread out more at least, and FFX showed that, I guess. I honestly can't tell which if not all music he composed on that one.

But Uematsu was always good with hooks in his music, which seemed absent in FFXII's music (that he only did one song for). A lot of FFXII music just seemed to be there to fill in the atmosphere. Certainly, it has various styles going on to match the settings and just came out as neoclassical, primitivism or whatever. To me, FFXII is probably one of the most boring FF soundtracks. The only song I actually really enjoy listening to from it is the one song Uematsu composed on it Kiss Me Good-bye, which also is covered by Idolm@ster's Azusa

FFXIII's music was rather theme and variations (not necessarily the classical music meaning) as a lot of the tracks were simply rearrangements of one or two motives. But despite that, a lot of the arrangements are very beautiful, unlike the story or writing.

My favorite FF soundtrack is FFV, not for any technical reasons, I just like the way a lot of the music sounds.

hey i've never played a final fantasy but i will definitely listen to the soundtracks with your comments in mind

always been irked by the way sound design and composition and arrangemnt and orchestration in video games are usually straight up ignored. nobody cares that halo reach's music liberally quotes from eric whitacres's october and does a few interesting technical things with the old halo motives

anyways thanks. i appreciate it
>>
>>339569475
You're welcome. I haven't heard Halo's soundtracks before, but I'll give them a try later since you mention that.

I think one of the biggest problems with a lot of composers is that they aren't good at the theme part. They just go in with no direction and try to create something so new that it just has nothing there but a lot of disjointedness or lack of identity, and oftentimes just sounding like it should only be relegated to being background music. I want music that I can listen to, not just fill the air with sound just for the sake of being filler.

It works for in-scene things like movies and the like to set the mood, but if I don't care to listen to it beyond that, then it's not going in my playlist or recommendations. It's why I don't really talk highly of FFXII's soundtrack. It's not bad, but it does nothing beyond the scope of the game.
