Chrono Trigger is the single most overrated game ever made.
>>
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HeaxFaNZeg

In a century all electronic information will no longer exist. The entire era of gaming will collapse as a majority of the world's cities are swallowed by the oceans and the majority of the world's population will be homeless.

Maybe twenty years before that begins and in fifty we'll have almost nothing left.

More recent examples I could think of would be GTA V and The Last of Us (for better or for worse)

one of the only real answers, Darkstalkers literally changed the game on how sprites were made.

If you're interested, this page shows you why Darkstalkers was the pinnacle of sprite creation.

>>
>>339558024
GTA V will fade away just like the others. Only San Andreas achieved immortality because it started a massive trend of open-world style games. The Last of Us will be remembered only as another movie/game from this gen of narrative-driven games that pushed for photorealism. It's in the same bucket as the Uncharted games or Tomb Raider, even though it's thematically different and uses different gameplay. People remember it for the same thing as those.

>>339561704
Halo is a great example. Specifically Halo 2 causing Xbox Live to explode in popularity. Before that, online console play was considered a scam by most people.

Generally Darkstalkers 3 because it has the best mechanics and pushed sprites to their limits, but the other two are okay as well.

Also because no one plays the other darkstalkers, fightcade/ggpo or otherwise
>>
>>339564085
Well, putting rereleases/"updates" aside, there are really only 3 games in the series. 2 out of those 3 are good. The very first one doesn't hold up all that well, but it still has some nice music.

go on fightcade and tell me how many people are playing, then go onto the collecter's version and tell me how many are playing

sure, people still play in tournaments, but those people have likely been playing since DS2 came out, there aren't many new players on the scene. DS3 gets new people 'regularly' in that when people say "darkstalkers", they mean 3, and most peoples' experience in the series will be with 3

Fightcade isn't the primary Darkstalkers venue. The primary Darkstalkers venue is and always has been Japanese arcades. And players there are still playing both Hunter and Savior. Arcades in Japan regularly organize events ranging from tournaments to free play days for both of them.

It was the first MMO to achieve a large population, and its design inspired all those that came after: EQ, DAOC, SWG, Runedcape, etc.

It's a bit late for that sentiment.
You'd be right if it all stopped after the 80's crash, but now video games are becoming part of everyday life. The term "gamification" was coined in relation and response to video games and the impact they have had on society.

You can start by thanking video games for inspiring friendly user interfaces and interactive tutorials in non-gaming software, as opposed to command line interfaces, context-free and deeply nested hierarchies in menus, and operating manuals as thick as arcane dictionaries.

This thread is the first time this year I've seen the name "Chrono Trigger". Nobody talks about it anymore, it's a low key, niche game, and even when it was big it was only popular with a certain crowd, far from mainstream.
>>
Honest list, not because they were literal 10/10s, and I don't necessarily agree with them all:

Super Mario Bros.
Ocarina of Time
Doom/Quake/Unreal Tournament
Grand Theft Auto III
Portal
Minecraft
Tetris/Pong/Space Invaders
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare/Modern Warfare 2
Final Fantasy VII
Dark Souls
Resident Evil 4
>>
>>339572753
"Influential", to mean anything, comes down to who and what it influenced.

Wizardry inspired every JRPG dev ever, including those involved with Chrono Trigger.
Chrono Trigger inspired a bunch of neckbeards and weaboos who continue to waste away in their mothers' basements / attics.
>>
>>339571597
Many of these(most notably Darryl F. Zanuck) are people whose financial interests depended on convincing people that those technologies wouldn't last.
>>
>>339572905
Do you not talk to normies? Everyone and their mother know about this shit, and everyone and their mother fucking love Frog. Just because people don't spam threads on /v/ doesn't mean it isn't popular.
>>
>>339572905

No one talks about Chrono Trigger because it's a dead series with only 2 games, not because it's niche. Normies may not know about it, but just about anyone that is slightly invested into games (especially RPGs) is at least aware of its existence.
>>
>>339573260

>>
>>339574921
OK, so what games did it influence? What did it change about the industry?
>>
>>339575070
Nobody said it was a game changer. It influenced everything after it, just like everything before it. Do you not know what influence is? Do you need some dev quote saying "I MADE DARK SOULS BECAUSE OF THIS"? Even IF it didn't make people think about games differently doesn't mean it didn't have an effect.

Alright, I guess you don't know what influence is, then.
>>
>>339575636
>game had no lasting impact on the industry
So it's not influential. No devs have ever said it was important to them, nobody has ever made any kind of homage to it. It came and went, even if it's remembered by a few people it had no impact on the world.

Mario Bros is influential, it changed video games. CoD is influential, it also changed vidya, but for the worse. Pokemon is influential, Final Fantasy is influential, GTA is influential, Pac-Man is influential. Chrono Trigger isn't chicken shit.

but Chrono Trigger is niche you pretentious faggot, the only place I see it mentioned is in "serious" gaming forums and sites, normies don't know what the fuck that game is and at best they only know Chrono because he made a cameo in a DBZ ova in the form of Tapion
>>
>>339578295
So normies do know what it is then? Case closed.
>>
>>339577104
playing bayonetta 15 minutes ago had a large influence on my dick
should it be on the list too?
>>
>>339578436

most of them not, they know the character because of DBZ cameo but don't know the game, put a pic of Chrono infront of your run of the mill normie and they will tell you "that's tapion from dragon ball" not Chrono
>>
>>339567717
If you can say that with a straight face, you simply haven't played enough games.

I fucking hate those flat sprites that look like they were made on MSPaint
I also fucking hate smooth animation in fighting games because of animation lag

Darkstalkers is responsible for crap like Turd Strike exsisting

Chrono Trigger has been played by millions of people worldwide
A 40 bucks Ripoff Port of the original sold like a million and a half worldwide

CT is not niche by any stretch of the imagination

Not really. It had a few innovations when it comes to the JRPG formula, but ultimately it's much of the same thing we've been seeing for a while. If anything, Final Fantasy IV innovated far more than Chrono Trigger did.

I miss when japs actually cared about jrpg's, /v/. Where did it all go so wrong? Why aren't masterpieces like CT being produced anymore?

Not really. Honestly, I think it's a good thing that kids love it, because it's pretty much Lego but with without the huge costs and more freedom. Can't really complain about something that encourages creativity to be honest.
>>
>>339556925
Anyone got that pic about what CT would be like if it was released today?

With most of the sidequests and stuff being DLC?
>>
>>339571597
Charlie Chaplin and H. M. Warner are the heroes we need.
>>
>>339558371
Not really, its fun as fuck, rely on your creativity, its quite a 10/10, but the comunity is shit.

Besides, the youtuber shitters made this game tedious to play, they invaded all the servers, fucked up the good comunities with their kids...

You can give it a try alone in survival or with friend in both creative mode and survival, its fun as shit.

Running hardcor emode to beat the Enderdragon is a really fun way to play. It really keeps you on your toes. You have to play reasonably carefully, such as keeping water buckets on you in case a zombie on fire or enderman attacks you. Keeping fire resistance potions on you whenever you visit h*ck.
