As much as what kind of round, grain count, and caliber matters when referring to the damage potential of a fire-arms.

The same applies to melee weapons what kind of shape, form, and material.

You should blame Final Fantasy for it.
D&D has the most utility and non-elemental spells of any system.

>>
>>339553128
Yeah but they all tend be long range AOEs attacks.

It's like someone took the rules for artillery rules from war games and just put them in a pointy hat.
>>
>>339553270
hitting someone with the butt of your gun is quieter than shooting it, so you don't give away your position to the enemies

plus, melee isn't meant to be your go-to, it's a last resort and shouldn't be balanced
>>

Typically when there's guns in a fantasy game they're usually the more early kind such as flintlock/matchlock, and they usually suck ass (long periods of time between each shot for large spike damage that can easily be outclassed by just running up and stabbing a fucker with a sword).

I want to see more modern era technology juxtaposed with high fantasy.
>>
If your sword is sharp enough and you're strong enough, you could easily deal more damage than a bullet.
>>
>>339554429
>I want to see more modern era technology juxtaposed with high fantasy.
That game already exists and it's called ff7

tifa can punch harder than barret can shoot with his gatling gun arm
>>
>>339553270
There's a few ways. skill walls, limited ammunition and reloads. high-profile. slow aim times ects, limit line of sight ects. Give me melee special effects, faster movement and the like

Basically you need melee attack to have a higher relative time to kill ratio to compensate for range. Upping the damage is simplest way to do it.

>>339553559
If it's meant to be a realistic shooter yes, it does depend on the game.
>>

Melee
>>

The cold freezes the armor and the sharp breals through it
>>
>>339554872
You could just summon a fast as fuck ball of ice to cave their chest in like some sort of hammer. Hammers + plate armor = dead people
>>
>>339554429
Try EyE.

Shadowrun also has that going on. Strangely though despite everyone using them practically swords are useless in the PnP.
>>
>>339554691
Plate armor can also be pierced by a crossbow bolt.
If that icicle is sharp enough and goes fast enough, plate won't help you.
>>
>>339555045
No, ice spike work better because both aerodynamic and heart stab
>>
>>339553405

>wearing plate armor against magic
You retard. Fire will melt your armor along with your flesh; Ice will freeze your armor and make you a living target; electricity will just laugh at you because your armor is a great conductor; earth will make your armor dirty.
>>
>>339555184
What if you launch it as a spike, but just before impact your ice magic auto-cast shit turns it into a ball, and then once it impacts with the armor, it drives a spike of ice into the person like some sort of piledriver?
>>
>>339555217
Fire magic is usually either explosion or something like a lava ball, not just a piece of flame that does nothing.
>>
>>339555362
If spike and aerodynamic for speed, must be light. Therefore, once turn into ball just like snowball throw at enemy. Useless.

DnD Wizards don't cast damage spells. You're thinking of final fantasy.
>>
>>339556575
You're playing with shitty wizards, and you're playing wizards wrong in crpgs

A wizard's strength is in his non "I DEAL 6D6" evocation spells. Those have their place, like when I levelled a castle wall and killed everyone on it with a simple second level spell in a campaign

All the interesting, and powerful, shit wizards can do is with more subtle spells and chaining effects from them - assuming a dm isn't a boring and doesn't let you do stuff like it, evocation is boring
>>
>>339556575
DnD wizards still use trickery and sly magic. It's sorcerers and mages who use more elemental spells. Even then, they're still pretty passive. The highly offensive spells are saved for warlocks.

There was one time in the hobbit book, when they were in the trees

Gandalf considered wiping out the several hundred goblins that were forcing them to stay in the trees but decided not to, as there was a good chance of himself getting killed

At least I think that was why he chose not to, haven't read the book in a long time
>>
Since were talking about DnD in this thread, I might as well ask, how do you get a large group of people to play with you? It sounds like a blast but theres too much risk. Like if you ask someone if they want to play DnD on friday there's a 99% chance they'll think you're a fucking loser. (not that its not true, they just know for sure know)

Next time you and your friends meet up to play video games at someone's house, see if they want to play DnD instead. Use a module.

Failing that, FLGS. Go to Wizards' website and look for places that have FNM, they most likely will have DnD on non-Fridays, most likely Saturday and Sunday.

Warhammer 40k RPGs.

Seriously, it's a flaw of the system resulting from melee weapons getting bonus damage from your Strength bonus while guns just do their flat damage.

The end result is that melee weapons scale to ridiculous damage and a character can use a big axe to do as much damage as a Plasma Gun.

And yes, I know this isn't video games but it pisses me off.

Shouldn't that just enhance the effectiveness of their power output by making the bullets more accurate, since stronger arms will keep a more stable grip on the weapon?

How does one decide if a potion heals a fixed amount of damage taken or an amount of damage proportionate to your overall health?
>>
>>339562312
I'm not sure i understand the question.
>>
>>339562312
I think fixed amount is best
>>
>>339562375
How does one decide if a potion restores
>+10 HP
>+10% MaxHP
>>
>>339562582
First one has the downside where eventually that size of potion becomes obsolete and its effects become negligible.
>>
>>339562582
Do you mean on a design level, or if the potion you have actually does one or the other?

On a design level, it depends on how your health works in general. the higher the numbers, the more the need for percentile based health restores.

In the other case, try it. If it consistently does 10 regardless of your health, its the former. If it changes at an even rate, its the latter.
>>
>>339562312
Fixed would make more sense unless it somehow reacted greater with more mass or something

I agree, but that doesn't really answer my question...
>>
>>339556119
Dexterity is wrongly called agility, yes, we agree on this.

Dexterity is how good you are with your hands with shit, Agility is moving and dodging.

A percentage of health seems more sensible in any setting. It's a magic potion, it's supposed to make anyone who drinks it healthier the same amount, right?

Why would having more max hp (being healthier in general) make a potion any less effective?
>>
>penis is harder than vagina

Why do they allow this?
>>
>>339563179
Its obviously a design decision, but are you talking about how the fucking potion maker guy in the world decides if he wants the potion he's making to heal at a flat rate or a %?

RIP Vortex.

Dexterity extends to more than arms: it's the entire body in general and the resulting reflexes.

I mean, you can be good at avoiding stuff and still have terrible judgement and reaction speed just like you can readily prepare an action faster but your body does not necessarily register your command in mind properly.

Try to associate dexterity for tacticians and agility for, say, circus performers.
>>
>>339563342
It makes some sense for simpler potions to only heal a set amount. The same amount of healing goo has more work to do if you are bigger, and missing more health.

Blunt and stab wounds are far more deadlier than bullets.
>>
>>339553504
I mean that is actually pretty close to how DND was made but there are a lot more interesting spells outside of 4th edition which was shit
>>
>>339564115
Bullets do blunt wounds inside your body, though.

Skirt kills it for me. I think it looks ugly but even from a practical standpoint that gap in the middle is way too wide.

Only one thing, really. The guy in the red hoody just needs to swivel to the blue hoody guys side.

kek no
It's not uncommon to survive ten-tweny stab wounds. While in the same amount of time it's close to impossible to forty-sixty shots.

>>339553006
Man, spoken like a true dipshit who doesn't know anything about tabletop games. D&D has MOSTLY utility spells. AoE and Ray elemental spells are like less than 1/5th of the vanilla spell list.

the narrator is excited, he is not only trying to tell you quickly the easiest way to defeat bullies every time but to leave a cool quote about swords or something.
