Why is PC gaming so bad? It doesn't have any worthy exclusives and console ports either never happened or take years to get anything.

Why do people prefer a PC over a gaming console /v/? I just don't understand outside of free online.
>>
It's not.

There's literally thousands of exclusives on PC, plus numerous multiplats that started, and thus work better on PC.

We're getting more console-origin ports than ever before. There's barely any reason to own a current-gen console.

PC offers the maximum customization options, best visuals and performance, cheapest prices, modding capabilities, emulation of most console systems out there, and unrivaled versatility in general.

And the best part? There's no "generations" on PC. You can literally play some games made in 1950s on PCs of today.
>>
>>339547971

I play pc for the 4k multiplats and ps4/3ds for exclusives

First post best post.
You have so much freedom with a PC.
It's also great to have a nice computer for plenty of things other than gaming. porn

We can play games without aim-assist.

>Why is PC gaming so bad?

Because the company that currently dominates the PC gaming industry is a console company with a vested interest in making the PC unattractive for the kind of easy living room use that console gamers are accustomed to and is more interested in bringing the restrictions and limitations of consoles to PCs?

Why do you think that Microsoft is so interested in pushing Windows 10 that they're resorting to misleading dialog boxes to get people to upgrade, or why they'd lock their new 'universal' applications to a single version of their own OS? Windows 10 ain't done till Steam won't run. Free Online for PC gaming is going to be a thing of the past for UWP DX12 games in the not too distant future.

Valve knows this, that's why they've been investing heavily in technologies for gaming outside of Microsoft's ecosystem.

when MS locks people out of installing Steam, I'll agree with your tinfoil-worthy statements

In the meantime, I'll be in the living room streaming games from my PC

Is it tinfoil worthy how many types of Windows 10 devices are there? How many of them allow you to install Steam? We're less than four years away from the Windows 7 end of life. If we don't start getting developers to go multi-platform soon Microsoft will basically be free to do whatever they want after that point because they won't have to compete against their own previous superior products anymore.

if it has legit W10 on an X86 system that is NOT an xbone, they all will

>If we don't start getting developers to go multi-platform soon Microsoft will basically be free to do whatever they want
MS isn't going to lock out Steam or Origin or Uplay or your ability to install DRM-free games
If they did it would be literal suicide

Why would it? What other option will you have 4 years from now if developers don't shift to supporting other platforms today? If the only OS developers support is Windows, and the only version of that OS that is supported is Windows 10 and Microsoft pushes developers to UWP and the Windows Store for compatibility with the XBox how would it be suicide for them to take that one last step by forcing a subscription service and blocking applications from 'unknown' sources?

What other option will you have? Microsoft will have you completely by the balls.
>>
>>339547971
>Why do people prefer a PC over a gaming console /v/?

Because I can buy a PC today and have access to shitloads of good games. Or I can buy a console and have access to like 14 good games, 8 of which are better on PC unless of course I buy a 7th-gen console (earlier consoles are emulatable and therefore redundant) in which case I'll get maybe a hundred good games.

>What other option will you have 4 years from now if developers don't shift to supporting other platforms today?
1. I don't require another option
2. Linux is a thing, and is quite well supported

>Microsoft pushes developers to UWP
only if they can secure contracts for exclusive distribution, and they can't pay off everyone - certainly not developers/publishers with their own profitable means of distribution

>because that would mean they could do it with any other software, like music production, image editing, stock trading, alternate productivity software

All available from the Windows Store because Microsoft will make those companies play ball by virtue of being the only game in town, and you know that limits placed on the consumer version won't apply to corporate environments.

> Linux is a thing, and is quite well supported

Except not very well supported by game developers. The current push for Linux gaming seems likely to stall out given the lack of support from communities like this one. Even if we see a third attempt at Linux game support after 2020 it will be facing a far more problematic situation with much weaker potential supporters. The only solution is to switch off of Microsoft products sooner rather than later so that Linux can keep building steam.

>this will never happen and you're dumb for entertaining the thought that it might
Windows is now the only one of the major tablet platforms that allows software from third party sources out of the box. They can easily argue to any regulators that their locking of Windows is simply matching the competition in security precautions. Desktops? Nobody really cares or uses those anymore.

>>
>>339553710
Desktop use of Windows now accounts for a small percentage of devices that Microsoft cares about.

When it comes to PC gaming though there's no alternative. Surely you can see the danger of having a company that is at best indifferent, or at worst openly hostile to the PC as we know it as the steward of PC Gaming.
>>
>>339554142
do you really think MS would sink their ship over some games?
really?
take a step back and gain some perspective, friend, you sound like you need it

also, in an absolutely worst case scenario, I would just install XP again
>>
>>339554441
How will it be 'sinking their ship'? You will have literally no options other than to accept every demand Microsoft makes.

>I would just install XP again
So you would be more than ten years behind with no access to the majority of modern games and no security updates. I've seen it before with the guys that clung to their Amigas, that's not really the fate I want for PC gaming.
>>
>>339555052
>no access to the majority of modern games
this is not only wrong, it's borderline insane

>no security updates
like I need them on a gaming rig
>>
>>339555859
For no most modern games you need at least windows 7.
>>
>>339555859
>this is not only wrong, it's borderline insane

Its not insane, the majority of games today require DX11 support. That's part of why Wine is less useful on Linux than it has been in the past with the other part being that Microsoft's new UWP applications won't work with it since Wine is a reimplementation of the old Microsoft APIs. Plus GPU vendors have said that they won't support Vulkan on their legacy graphics drivers for XP.

>like I need them on a gaming rig
Connecting to the internet with an unpatched decade old Windows machine? Now that's not borderline, that is certifiably insane.
>>
>>339547971
Because:

1. Backwards compatible with basically all my favorite games, even things on ps1, ps2, etc.
2. Better hardware means better performance. Make the most of 144hz screen.
3. Better graphics.
4. Better customization, modding.
5. Most games I play are best with kbm instead of a controller.
6. I can also use my computer for work, research, shit posting, etc etc. I no longer even own a TV or any home consoles, only a handheld for travel.
7. I can download every game I want to play, don'the have to shop in stores or wait for shipping.
8. I can multitask and play games while doing other things on one system.
9. Etc
>>
>>339558180
So you like because you can steal games by emulating and pirating? Ok nigger.
>>
>>339547971

>>
>>339558390

>>339558180
>1. Backwards compatible
Anybody with half a brain already owns a $30 PC capable of this, including console owners.
>2. Better hardware
Inherently false, can you buy better hardware but PC doesn't automatically come with better hardware and better hardware means little when games are console optimized
>4. Better customization, modding.
How many games do you actually mod and customize? Do you go into every game wanting to alter the artstyle and inject your own stuff into it?
>5. Most games I play are best with kbm instead of a controller.
Likewise, I'll never play action rpgs with a kb and mouse
>6. I can also use my computer for work, research,
A $10 toaster can do the same thing
>7. I can download every game I want to play
You mean you rent digital app.db licences, you don't have full ownership over your games nor can you sell them later when you grow out of them.
>8. I can multitask and play games while doing other things on one system.
So you can not play games while you;re playing games, wow.
