It's been 4 years and the 280x, or maybe I should say 7970,

It's been 4 years and the 280x, or maybe I should say 7970, is still treading the barrier of top of the line.

Is the evolution of gaming stagnating? Is this the end, bros?

>>339532235
>top of the line
>implying that's not 980 ti

got one just recently and never looked back
>>
>>339532235
Still have mine from years ago. Haven't had a reason to upgrade, but I hear good things about the new era of cards coming out, so we'll see if the games will actually demand them
>>
I'm leaving mine for a 1070 when they come out
>>
>>339532235
Does AMD still have that cursor glitch in some games? I switched to Nvidia after years of that shit that should have been an easy fix but never fucking came.
>>
>>339532235
RX 480 is going to be $199. It will be somewhere around 390X and GTX 980 or maybe around Fury. Dual RX 480 is supposed to be better than 1080 or equal. Thats the best option if you want something.

1070 is around 980ti level, but for $450.
1080 is about 15% better than 980ti, but for $700.
>>
>one of the six people that own a 7990
Feels good
>>
Same here, I have a 7970 GHz edition, and that nigger still runs all new games perfectly.
>>
>Tfw I have that exact model
Feels good, card still stomps most games at 1080p or resolutions slightly above it.
>>
>>339534363
Where it looks like vertical dots?
>>
I'm stuck with a 7770. In that awkward spot where I'd see an improvement with an upgrade, but it still runs everything I want decently enough that it's hard to justify it especially when there's nothing but shit coming out.
>>
>>339537951
The new RX 480 will be a perfect upgrade for you at $199.

Get that shit. It will perform about 390X-Fury level and use only 110-130 watt
>>
>tfw my psu is still upside down after two years
>>
>>339532235

The 7970 was top of the line.
The 280X was midrange

The 380 and 960 were underpowered this generation so that's why it seems like stagnation.
>>
>>339532235
I have an overclocked 7950 and it plays most new games at high/very high settings. It is starting to show it's age.
>>
>>339538405

No shit? I guess I'm gonna sell my 260X then. When does it release?

Oh come on, be fair, most Nvidia fanlads didn't fall for the Founder's Edition scam.
>>
>>339539448
Rumor is at the end of June. We may know for sure in about 2 hours though, when AMD has their Computex presser.

They're getting sold out in certain areas. Plus the custom fans will be around that much price anyway. Only the reference will be $599. Reference cooler anyone? kek
>>
>>339532235
I have a 7970 Ghz ed. in my old pc.

It was a great card. Still is. You can still get good performance with it in new games at 1080p by lowering some settings.

Considering it's nearly 5 years old that's pretty impressive.
>>
>>339534363
>>339536929
Using a 290x, and I haven't run in to it in a year and a half or so. I can't say with any authority that it's gone on all cards and all games forever though.
>>
>mfw I still have my 5 year old 560ti that still plays everything in 1080p

Sure it's not high settings and not 60fps (except for MGSV and Overwatch and their based optimization) but as long as I could game in 1080p and constant 30fps I'm good.
>>
>>339538858

Same. I can play most games on high but it starts to chug around 30FPS for games like Black Desert.

Not sure the crossfire for two 480's is worth it for $400. Makes more sense to go with the 1070 and OC it if you want that price point. You'd have less to deal with if Crossfire isn't supported on all games or has issues.
>>
This thread is as good as any: I got myself a sapphire R9 290 (vapor-x if that matters) and I'm getting a lot of graphical artifacts in some games. Could the card be defective? It's my first build but I double checked and everything's plugged in correctly.
>>
>>339540573
Clock speed issue? Voltage issue? PSU issue?
>>
>>339540573
What's your power supply?
If if bad, it might not be supplying enough power to your card. If it's used, then maybe it has problems.

Otherwise, yep RMA it.
>>
>>339532915
Why in the hell would you buy that shit when you can get 1070?
>>
>>339540675
>>339540739
PSU is an EVGA supernova 750 g2. I'm afraid of sending it back because they don't sell that card anymore and I'm not sure what replacement to get
>>
>>339540054
>Only the reference will be $599
Founder's Edition IS the reference. That's why it's a scam. Just a redesigned version of the NVTTM cooler and a price premium they can charge people who don't want to endure the artificial delay for the partner board designs. No GPU binning, higher clock speeds, special bonuses, extended warranties, nothing. $599 is what basic partner boards will cost at launch.
>>
>>339540998
390 probably

>MFW I have to suffer the pain of playing with a laptop
At least I can play Doom (1993) at 15 FPS
>>
>>339532235

It's partially that consoles generally determine the minimum specs of PC multiplats (whereas PC exclusives are built to scale down to shitty integrated GPUs) and the most recent batch of consoles are less powerful than that. Bigger root cause is that moore's law is starting to slow down- big leaps in processing power require die shrinks, and the frequency/degree of those die shrinks has been decreasing.
>>
>>339535024
7970 Ghz was my first card, it is unbelievably good. I just hope that my 980ti will last as long, i am running at 1440p and i look at the 780ti benchmarks now and i cant help but feel worried that in a month my card will be struggling to reach 40fps on new games.
>>
So memes aside which new card should I actually get?

I have a GTX 760 that I should probably replace one of these days. Or should I try overclocking and fry it to squeeze out a couple extra frames and hold out for another year or two?

Wait for Polaris. Check against 1070 specs vs price. Don't wait for ti or any dumb bullshit people are going to say.

>>339541804
Oh yeah that 2gb of vram is sure could to improve when he overclocks his card.
>>
>>339542064
2gb should be still fine for 1080p honestly. If there are no good AAA games on the horizon you're looking forward to, a 760 is still decent to work with.
>>
>>339532235
My 280x is still running strong.
I wonder if the new cards are good enough for 4k?

My water cooled 290X will last me for at least another two to three years.
>>
>>339542382
No. This is completely wrong. You're repeating a meme that spouted on forums years ago that isn't true at all anymore.
>>
>>339542847

They can do 30FPS in 4K maxed out. You can probably do 60 if you turn it to medium and turn off the AA. Not sure about Polaris yet. I'd expect 970-980TI'ish performance out of them.
>>
>>339543231
A 760 can max dark souls 3 at 30fps, that's still a very usable card.
>>
>>339543413
>30fps
Get the fuck out.
>>
>>339532235

>280x
>top of the line

If you call flagship power consumption and heat along with low OC headroom for mid-tier performance, then yeah, top of the line
>>
>>339543440
It works, he could still play today's AAA at a nice quality, and he could wait two years for cards that could actually do 4k.
>>
>>339542847

An overclocked 1080 can get 60fps in most games, 45-50 in more strenuous ones.

Hopefully by the time the 1080Ti comes out 4K monitors are a lot better.
>>
>>339536929
That's the bunny. Was really frustrating because the only certain way to make it go away temporarily was to move it to your other screen then move it back. Only I had only one screen so I said fuck it. AMD cards I owned were perfectly fine except that one shitty annoying fucking thing.
>>
>>339543516
>low OC headroom
Uwotm8?
The 280x can OC from 850/1500 base to 1100/1700 no problem.
