I think growing up I would have appreciated being able to play as a female character, I could have a "hero/idol" if you will.
I think it's important to have a plethura of female character types out there, just as there is a huge variety of male characters...what it really comes down to is we all want to have some sort of representation in the media we enjoy.
This does not in anyway take away from my enjoyment of games (I went as one of my all time favorite video game characters for Halloween, Mario!:)) if the character is male, but it would be nice to have more representation, or to be able to have the choice of genders if this is able to be fit into a game.
