Depending on how you read it, the "Betrayer" mentioned in the codex is either Doomguy or a Night Sentinel.
Either way, because of this, Doomguy's home realm got invaded by Hell and was absorbed into Hell itself. Doomguy got royally pissed, and has been slaughtering demons in Hell for "eons," as the codex says.
