Why is Bloodborne's soundtrack so much better than Dark Souls 3's?
>>
Because Sakuraba is fucking awful?
>>
>>339510494
Sakuraba only did a few tracks on DaS3. I feel like the quality and orchestration overall is so much better in Bloodborne.
>>
>>339510221

>sony as main producer
>6 composers
>almost 2 more years or planning (and composing)
>fucking ORCHESTRATED soundtrack, instead of VSTs and a couple of people doing some choirs.

actually im impressed DaS3 soundtrack isnt awful, some of the tracks are good, but the transitions between phases are shit tier. Using lame disonance glissandos (as in Sulllyvan part a and b).
>>
>>339510221
Live orchestra and more focused on the instruments instead of over the top chorus
>>
>>339511145
I don't know... I'm just so disappointed. There wasn't even anything cool like Ruin Sentinel in this one.
>>
>>339510221

Because it's the first game of a new brand and needs to be as remarkable as possible. It will then be succeeded by Bloodborne 2 and 3, which will feature more of the same but with less effort and maybe some updated graphics and missing game mechanics.
>>
>>339510494
This.
He has been shit for a while now.
>>
>>339510221

Hardly better. Soundtrack quality has been on a decline since DaS. Both it and DeS had multiple, unique from each other and memorable tracks yet every souls since them has had max ~2-3 good tracks in them.

Part of it is the live orchestra, but I think most of it is the musical styles.

Dark Souls 3, like the other games, has a sort of Fantasy styled, LotR sort of OST with a lot of grandiose orchestra and shit going on. Chorus, blaring horns, etc. Honestly, though there are a number of good tracks, generally it sounds overwhelming and a little messy.

Bloodborne, on the other hand, going on a sort of historical fiction, uses more Neoclassical and Victorian style symphonic music. It has distinct swells and drops, the melodies are more focused, with certain instruments clearly distinguished, most notably violins and horns in, say, Ludwig's amazing theme.

Part of it is by design. The bosses in BB Scream and yell so often that the music needs to be a little low key to not overpower the scary screeches. Hell, in the Orphan fight the yells are basically another instrument.

DaS3's music has too lofty a goal, and falls short. BB's OST is grounded in reality, and as a result turns out superb.
>>
I am listening to it now for the first time.
Any songs that are better than the others?
>>
>>339512085
play the game. It's better with the game
>>
>>339511973
DeS was the only truly good score. The themes were diverse and not just AAAAAAAAAAA firetruck music. As such, it's actually memorable. How many boss themes can you recognize from other Souls games?
>>
>>339511145
Those are some pretty impressive bullet points if true. Still don't have the console to play Bloodborne on but that sounds great.
>>
>>339512085
The Hunter
Cleric Beast
Ebritas
The First Hunter
Ludwig
Maria

just off the top of my head
>>
>>339512085
I think most people Like Ludwig's, Maria's, Laurence's and Gehrman's songs.
>>
>>339512085
Living Failures, Maria, Ludwig, pretty much all the DLC boss themes stick out a lot. Although like someone else said a lot of them sound a lot better if you've experience the "twists" in the fight.
>>
What is your favorite track from each game?

>DaS: Sif
>DaS2: Ruin Sentinel

Both DS3 and BB have the same number of GOAT tracks.
The only bad thing is that Nobuyoshi Suzuki only made one track for the entire game and it was a very slowly-paced one unlike One Reborn's theme that went apeshit in the end.
Hopefully we will see something from him in DLC as he made themes of Ludwig and Failures, two best themes in BB.

>>

Pretty much. The only one I can remember from DS3 for example is the deacons theme. Most other themes just sound the same more or less. Hard to recognize them from each other.

From DaS I can recall O&S, Gwyn, Moonlight Butterfly, Nito, Iron Golem, Four Kings, Sif, Taurus, Pinwheel Firelink theme and Ask lake theme. Pinwheel track really has to be the most underrated track.

From DaS2 I can recall only Ruin Sentinels and Majula.

DeS had the most unique style out of the 5 and while it had less tracks, many of them were unique.

Actually, I agree. Vanilla BB wasn't great in terms of boss variety. With DLC it got the best bosses in the series, hands down, but DaS3 hasn't had DLC yet so it's not quite fair. The DLC is always the best part of any souls game.

Vanilla BB top tier bosses:

Gherman
Gasoline
Cleric Beast
Logarius
Pthumerian Dude

DaS3 Top Tier Bosses

Gundyr
Abyss Watchers
Pontiff
Dancer
Oceiros
Twin Princes
Nameless King

Also, I don't think Dark Souls 3's soundtrack was bad at all, if anything Bloodborne's comparatively, especially for the DLC felt monotonous and generic horror/actiony apart from a few tracks like ebrietas, wet nurse and gehrman.

By comparison there are a ton of great and unique sounding tracks in DS3 that really "get" the bosses atmosphere.

One of the most enjoyable parts of the soundtrack was going to the opening cutscene and seeing how they utilised the 3 lords of cinders theme in it.

I think the best of Dark Souls 3 includes:

Pontiff:

Isn't BB the only game in the series that uses live instruments? Anyway Laurence is my favorite, and yes I know it's based on the cleric beast. But that's the whole point with the cleric beast track being reused in the standalone game with the original cleric beast having it's own theme in the expansion.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA614N3IHD4

This is how most of BB's music felt to me to be honest, maybe I'm just not a fan of the tone.

Whereas these two sound a lot different:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3V9zxXN1rx0

I think the DLC did wonders at differentiating the sound though, as the five fights were highly impressionable and sounded different in terms of music

For DS3 the best boss tracks are doubtlessly
>Gundyr
>Abyss Watchers
>Yhorm
>Oceiros
>Pilgrim Armor
>Twin Princes

The rest range from okay to meh. After listening to Vordt a lot I don't really appreciate it as much as I used to.

In BB
>Gascoigne
>Cleric Beast/Amelia
>Gehrman
>Ludwig
>Ebrietas
>Living Faliures
>Maria
>Laurence
>Orphan
>Moon Presence
Are all great. I preferred BB's vastly, though some of DS3's best are almost as good.

Based on the unused boss music found in the files I don't have as much confidence in DS3's DLC for the music as I did for TOH.

I just find it funny how people can argue back and forth about shit like this when the majority of DS3's soundtrack was done by BB composers anyway.

Demon's has the best OST in the series. Every track oozes with atmosphere and isn't so busy it just blurs. The number of quality tracks per game drops off hard after that one. Let's see what I can remember.

Dark 1: Gwyn, Credits song, Ash Lake, O&S
Dark 2: Majula, Menu (The best hub music and best menu music of the entire series, actually)
Dark 3: I guess Dancer was alright? Soul of Cinder's was fine for being a callback to Gwyn.

Basically the Souls composer fails at trying to do intense grandiose music. Just absolutely a snore.

Expect to go from fearing death around every corner to becoming the fear. The aesthetics, plot and general design of Bloodborne make getting good a proper fucking power trip.

Nobody likes Maria's

Just listen to Ludwig's twice.
>>
I honestly dont even remember the themes of Deacon, Greatwood, Wolnir or Old Demon King

Dragonslayer Armor, Twin Princes, the first half of Pontiff, Vordt and Soul of Cinder were amazing though

Aldritch was just a remix of Gwyndolin and Abyss Watchers was just a play on Artorias' Theme

Honestly DS3 tried too hard making references to DS1 and didnt feel like it was much of its own game

I actually disagree about BB having a better soundtrack. Most tracks have the cliché "ominous strings" that lack subtlety. I have made my point several times accross similar threads, but to texplain it briefly,

Micolash's track is quite the example of why I strongly dislike BB's soundtrack. It has a good start and a piano that could stand on its feet by itself thanks to a strange weird piano part.

But 30 seconds in, the strings kick in because "horror soundtrack lol" even though they bring nothing and are more there because they "need" to be it.
For several tracks, the composition lacks personality and several bosses could have their tracks switched, something that was already a flaw in Sakuraba's work, but that is absent in DS3.

You can find DS3 less impressive in the orchestral work, but I think it has much more personality thanks to Yuka Kitamura, whose work is easily recognizable but her tracks never lack personality (You can easily recognize her style in tOH's Maria's theme) .
She won me with Vordt's soundtrack that I expected quite generic and in the same tones as Sakuraba's works on DS1 and 2 and nearly a month after completing the game Lorian+Lothric's theme never fails to give me chills, especially with the transition to the second part when the chorus kicks in.

I kinda agree with you. BB had a generic action/horror movie vibe that I really don't like even though there are good tracks in the bunch. The DLC had a stronger support from Yuka Kitamura which is why it feels more personal.

She obviously had less resources for DS3, no complete orchestra and it shows from time to time with the cheap keyboard sounds she uses to simulate strings in Yhorm's theme for example.
>>
>>339510221

I liked Lothric/Lorian's fight theme. That was fucking it.

Everything else sounded like it was directly ripped from Game of Thrones between atmospheric background music to random women screaming or chanting incoherently to an imagined composure.

Bloodborne's soundtrack was fucking MAJESTIC/creepy and beautiful in comparison and 100% fantastic.
>>
>>339529671
It took me a few times, but mostly because I was suffering from Souls muscle memory and it was fucking all my timing and my trick/item controls up.

I eventually used my tricked Axe R2 to just spin2win stunlock him to death.

Needless to say, I didn't actally git gud until later.
>>
>>339511145
Yeah I would completely agree that the transitions in DaS3 are really lame

They almost feel forced and don't feel natural like the ones in BB at all
>>
It isn't

Bloodbornes soundtrack was really generic and same-y, even moreso than DS3 which is also really generic and same-y

Also don't forget that BB's composers numerous but still managed to be lazzy and plagiarize Holst because they had no idea what to do for a Ayy lmao soundtrack and let Yuka give an identity to the track with the second part.

Please tell me how Amygdala sounds even remotely similar to Living Failures or Wet Nurse? Or Hail the Nightmare? Or Cleric Beast which admittedly Laurence uses the same melody of - for obvious reasons?

Some I will give you, like Ebrietas basically sounding generic as fuck. Most soundtracks have a few misses in them, though.

I found DaS2 and DaS3 to have a pretty abysmal soundtracks in general, though.

If you remove the intros, you could switch them and most people wouldn't find it strange because they were composed with a formula. You can clearly see which tracks are formulaic and which aren't. And outside of the music box for Mergo, the tracks with the extraterrestrial thematic, and the music of the final boss (which is, I admit, really great) most boss tracks are very samey, with just little differences in the pace.

Not related to DS3 soundtrack but, why does not linking the fire and instead letting it fade makes you feel like huge dickhead?

>Firekeeper wishes you to link the fire
>Ludleth calls you a betrayer for giving the eyes to the firekeeper thus wishing for it to fade
>Siegward is also someone who wishes for the sun to keep on shining, he is a very helpfull guy wich makes you feel like linking the fire to repay the favor.
>The lords of Cinder grew tired of this whole linking stuff and just wanted to chill out, but if you chose to let it fade you pretty much killed them just for fun.

I sure hope they give us a bit more of a moral backup with DLC like more Kaathe dialogues or something.
