Using the words "REMASTER" or "DEFINITE" will make it sell. These tags are like writing "Game of the Year" on the cover; it doesn't mean shit, but people will pick it up because "surely it means it's good!".
Besides, it's always a popular game, so it's guaranteed to sell decently if previous fans buy it.
Because making games look like movies makes them somehow better.
This is what most developers actually believe.
This is also why so many console games have shitty film grain filters that you cannot turn off.

how can anyone thing that awfully colored bloom ridden mess on the left looks better? i mean, neither look great but the DoF helps to mask some of the garbage in the background until you get close enough that the bloom doesn't ruin it.
