You'd get more relevant background knowledge for TW3 by reading the short stories compilations (Sword of Destiny and Last Wish) than you would by playing the previous two games. They're quick, easygoing reads.
TW1&2 are both good games but not really that relevant to TW3.
That said you can just dive headfirst into it and still enjoy it so don't worry if you can't be bothered.

I actually did read The Last Wish after playing the first Witcher game.
I would not recommend it and it certainly didn't encourage me to buy anymore Witcher books.

Dead Space.
UI is part of the game world, so you never actually leave the environment in order to access it. All important items from the inventory can be used without having to access it too.

Yes you can. If you want to care about the characters I'd recommend playing 1 and 2 first. You can rush through them in 20 hours and still get the most important character building.
