The ship combat is fun; the story content can be engrossing; the player created missions are some of the best your likely to come across. The ground combat is insanely repetitive though, and it's very easy to get burnt out on the game as a whole. I would only really recommend it if you are a Star Trek fan because a lot what's going on involves call backs to the show.

General UI of the game is confusing as fuck though. There is so much fucking shit to micromanage like crew rosters and leveling up bridge crew and how to learn abilities and shit that the game doesn't really explain well how it works.
Best thing about STO are the Foundry Missions, these are fan made missions and the really good ones have really well written storylines, RPG dialogue choices, branching story trees and all sorts of cool shit.

To be fair, the game HAS a F2P option, it's not a 100% F2P game as the high end PVE and PVP content is unlocked for subscribbers. You can get the game + all the expansions + all the extra chapters released till that day for less than 10 bucks and you get all the bars and stetic shit people was crying so bad.

Some class stories are okay, most are "eeeh" at best. Expanions are hit and miss, I didn't really enjoy the first episode from the last one because it was too anime, if that makes any sense to you.
They overbuffed the companions/pets so much game is retardedly easy, you can't literally never die unless you try really HARD, and we're talking having truckloads of mobs wailing on you at the same time. Not like it was ever hard mind you, but it just became ridiculous.
That shit also removed any 'personality through gameplay mechanics' characters had, because now everyone can be every role and their equipment doesn't matter.
They also "streamlined" stats, now everyone uses the same "mastery" stat, it's funny because this is something I always joked about when I still played WoW and Cata was released. There's still fine-tuning through "secondary" stats, but yeah, say goodbye to strength, wisdom, etc.
PvE is "eeeeeeh" but can be entertaining if you play tank/healer and get grouped with complete idiots, read: the most likely event.
PvP was okay.
Overall I'd describe it as mediocre, but still recommend people to give a try since it's free, and it's not THAT bad as the good old memes will led you to believe.OR AT THE VERY LEAST PAY AGENT STORYLINE YOU FAG
