What stats do i need for stopping CTDs?
>>339477017
Speed at 100 + Boots of Blinding Speed and pretty high Acrobatics (mine are at 70 I think). Makes me jump around at sanic speed.
Decent Destruction skill and a high Intelligence for a lot of Magicka (to get the most possible roll an Altmer with the Atronach birthsign, but I rolled an Apprentice Breton).
Rest of the build doesn't really matter much.
I personally also have high Enchant and Short Blade as major skills so I can stab niggas with my magic sword. And Alchemy for making stupidly powerful potions but I haven't used that yet.
Uh... There's a perfectly good explanation for this, I assure you...
>>339479534
wouldnt breton be better than altmer anyway for using the boots?
>>339480207
In a way, yeah. With an Altmer you'd have a harder time getting your magicka resist to 100%. That's also the reason I picked a Breton.

HA HA, TIME FOR SKOOMA
This is amazing.
Ok, I feel like putting some of my thoughts out here on morrowind since I finally played a good amount of hours to finally reach LV.2 (should have put some athletics on my build)
First of all, I'm on oblivion fag. Its the first one I started with and the one I know best, and the second TES game I played for hours is skyrim, both I enjoyed. Before playing morrowind like I'm doing now, I goofed around with it a few years ago with a friend and just didn't touched it till you fuckers finally made me.
I love it. It feels more down to earth as an actual RPG then allot of the others I played. I could care less about the graphics, but it still, even with how it is it still feels like I'm entering a new and exciting world to explore. Any one who cries about hitting nothing are people who aren't sticking with they're builds (rogue more or less for me now.)
Theres only one issue with morrowind I have so far that hope doesn't show up to often and that's the lack of or none at all directions for missions. You all should Shulks Egg Farm. I took me a few hours and me reaching a new town to give up and just wiki it. The quest giver at the fighters guild only mentioned the mission being at the farm, but directions for it. I talked to a few npc commoners in ballmora, all said the same thing. You wanna know what the wiki said? South west along the river side. That's all I needed. This is more then likely the biggest deterrent for any new players of morrowind. Me, I'll keep playing, I love the game and can't wait to waist a few more months on it, but really, quest that have no directions is horrible.
>fuck you bitching faggots who like to complain about not hitting anything, just stick with you're damn builds!
>>339483762
I dunno, I remember that when I played it 12 years ago I didn't even have internet and I could always find what I needed. Sometimes it was a bit hard, but for most places there are enough clues and directions if you look and read carefully enough.
>>339484039
Worst part is I passed buy it. I was on that river and felt like that it should be rather close by. It was close to a crypt that I just had to bamfed the fuck out. Too under leveled fighting ... Bonewalkers? (great character designs) all I had to do was just walk forward to that source of light and noticed the to farm workers taking a breather.

When I was younger I remember doing the Redoran quest where you had to find the mad noble in a cavern north west of Ald'ruhn. These were the directions in the journal.
>...which is on the road to Maar Gan just north of the crossroads.
I spent hours trying to find that cavern, scouring every inch of the path between Maar Gan and Ald'Ruhn, but I just couldn't find it. I got really frustrated and quit Morrowind for a while.
On a later playthrough I learned that the cavern was on the western side of the hill. Not the eastern side, where the path to Maar Gan is. It was embarrassing to realize how close the cavern actually was. I'm happy with the journal directions, but that was a time where I feel it was a bit misleading.
>>339485463
Oh god there is more of those kinds of quests? I'll give it an hour till wiki then on my play through.
I remember trying to install some mod where you worked with Dagoth-Ur to spread the blight all over Morrowind, anyone know the name? I couldn't get it to install properly back then, would like to try again.

What do you guys recommend mod-wise for a first Morrowind playthrough?
No mods?
Just patches?
Mods from the get-go?
I've played Gothic and the IE games, so I don't really care about graphics and the like.
I'll probably play a defensive fighter, paladin type. Armour, restoration, block, alteration and a weapon type will be my main skills.
What's best for a good first time experience?
>>339487286

>>339487286
just touch up graphics a bit with mgso if you want, it can be a bit dated
otherwise nothing really, its kinda fun how you break the game even with a normal playthrough
well maybe the solstheim rumor fix, and the delayed brotherhood attack mod, if you have expansions installed (you should), so it doesnt start guiding you to the expansion content at the beginning
>>339474394
The easiest "cheat" is to create cast on self equipment that give you a huge amount of Enchanting and Intelligence for 1-2 seconds. You can stack all of them together if you're fast, and you're almost guaranteed to succeed even with permanent enchants.

It adds some very cool dungeons, a few expansions to the cities, revamps Red Mountain (will conflict with DNGDR if you are using it), and some optional rebalances to birth signs and races. I recommend that you at least grab the optional music files at least.
>>339486891
should i intervene? on which side? it just painful to watch...
>>339487286
I would say MGSO but that changes maybe a little too much for a first playthrough. Not really mechanics wise, just art style and shit.
You could go with just MGE (Morrowind Graphics Extender) and the Morrowind Code Patch and Morrowind Patch Project. Especially those last two since they fix a ton of bugs.
If you don't care that much about retaining the original art style completely then go with MGSO. It's more or less an all-in-one collection of a bunch of mods and has an automated installer.
>>339472803
>simple and quick

That's the one, thank you! I wonder if I can get it to work this time or if it's just broken in the first place.
Most fun I ever had with this game was my Cauis Cosades run. Only hand to hand, unarmored, athletics, acrobatics, and security.
No magic, and no items of any kind, except keys, a single pair of pants, skooma pipe, and quest items, and one single lock pick at a time.
Are you a bad enough tweaker to save the world?

Well, soul trapping is slavery of the worst form. It prevents the entity's soul from rejoining Aetherius and instead traps it in a prison to be later transferred to another prison where it will be forced into providing energy.

That requires you to find the spell effect to raise your Intelligence or Enchanting. Depending on your funds or game version this could take a while or be impossible.
It's much faster to produce potions that do it using ash yams, bloat, or netch leather. Bloat and ash yams are pretty easy to get your hands on early.
Luck also helps which you can get from corkbulb root and guar hide.
>>339488247
I don't think anyone these days doesn't have Tribunal. There's a guy selling fortify skill spells in Mournhold.

>>339490273
looks ok to me, but honestly even the most stupid builds are managable if you know what you are doing
but if you plan to minmax:
your mana pool as a nord probably wont support all those spellschools
im guessing you planning to use alteration for open spells (and shield, waterwalk etc) instead of security, high level locks might give you some trouble. Also no way to disarm traps, you need telekinesis to trigger remotely (mysticism) or security, or just suffer the damage since you are a bigguy
i would put block as a major, since it only increases when you block, and in minor its kinda shitty
no idea what illusion is for, for charming people speech is probably better, if you want it for paralysis you dont really have the mana for that and switching magic/weapons mid combat is painful
you dont need to paralize anyways since with high strength you knock down enemys and make the kowtow
thief is a crappy birthsign, 1 potion replaces it basicly, go for the best statboost one (lady or lover i dont remember)
if everything fails you can always jug down a couple sujamas for +strenght and oneshot everything
>>339491367
Thanks, this helped a lot!
Placed Block as a major now.
Illusion was for paralysis, since it worked so well in Oblivion. I'll give it up if strenght is enough then.
I'll just take the trap damage, since I'll have at least decent restoration.
What about Atronach as a sign then?
ince it gives me even extra resistance to magicka, and I'll have enough STR to carry lots of potions.
>>339492493
if you go atronach, remember that you can use shrines to refill your magicka
>>339490273
Almpst never major restoration. Minor it. Most useful restoration spells are pretty easy to use and don't cost a ton of mana so you can just use them again if they fail. Don't major enchant, especially if new. That basically means you are either going to enchant like crazy to grind enchant then break the game later or you are going to be pulled back by a major skill you never level. Minor it if anything, but really enchant requires a lot of dedication and it's usually better to use an NPC if you don't plan on going all out. I'd say don't even minor it. Alteration is cool though.
Illusion spells are usually costly and hard to cast. You need to make sure you level up illusion, probably with trainers, if you plan on casting those spells successfully. Paralyze isn't as bad as like invisibility though, but it still scales off Personality which you don't have much of so expect some time before you can cast anything. Maybe move acrobatics to major skills now that you have more slots so your acrobatics levels contribute towards strength during levelups. The Thief is probably not the best sign you could pick. The Steed will help with speed since you are always wearing heavy armor. The Apprentice will help with magicka since your pool is tiny and you want to use illusion. Warrior is always good. The Lady is downright powerful with +25 personality (for illusion) and +25 endurance (more HP per level). The Lover is also OK for its +25 agility boost for hit chance
Damn rats

>photobashing in fan art
>>339492609

>>339492623
I'll take it into account. I switched restoration to minor and acrobatics to major and left enchanting out.
Is there a useful skill I'm missing? You both seem to advise againts illusion, so I can replace that with something else. What would be a good skill to add? Mercantile? Marksman? Mysticism?
the birthsign: Lady or Atronach?
Atronach seems pretty good and makes me even more tanky, but seems more like an option for experienced players.
Lady is also pretty good and seems more beginner-friendly, so I'm leaning towards that..
>>339492493
more of a problem is getting these potions - alchemists have a small stock of magicka regen ones typically, and they are quite costly at start

atronarch is gamey...
its powerful, a true minmaxers choice, it makes you laugh at mages, since they just refill your manapool with fireballs...
regular refilling is tricky: potions, shrines, or if you want to game the system then summon ancestor ghost, the most basic summon and attack it since it casts spells, or make a drain 100pt intelligence for 1 sec on self, since it zeroes your pool and when you get it back after a sec its filled
I want to add on to my post here with a question.>>339483762

What can you guys tell me about the schools of Illusion and Conjuration in this game? I had a great time summoning and making people fight each other while invisible in Skyrim, but that was pretty limited. What are the options like in Morrowind, and how well do the command type spells work?
>>339495398
>Telekinesis triggers traps
That's pretty cool.
Oh, probe lock picks are for traps? I was wondering why that wasn't working. Thanks anon.>>339495398
>>339487607
It really isn't cheating. It's common sense. The only real way to enchant successfully is to have insane stats, which is what chain buffing or alchemy stacking is for. Enchanting left unbuffed is just for recharging items passively.
>>339493451
There are a few things you can do. First of all change your favored attribute from luck to something else. You could add to your strength or speed, or make up for low agility. Alternately you could expand your magicka pool with intelligence. (These favored attributes are just +10 to that attribute, that's all)
You don't have to get rid of illusion. Paralyze can be very powerful. So can Silence vs mages. You can opt for the Apprentice birthsign to raise your magicka pool to 75/ or 100 with int as a favored attribute. That's enough for a couple spells even in illusion. You could also go for the Atronach which turns you into more of an anti-mage. 50% spell absorption means half of spells will be negated and instead restore your magicka. Your magicka pool is also doubled to 80/120. The drawback is that you don't restore magicka by resting.
As for useful skills:
>Armorer
Useless if not grinding levels with
>Med/Light/un armor
You already have medium
>Axe/Spear/Blade/hand
You already have a primary weapon. I question the choice of longblade in minor skills too. You should focus on one
>Marksman
Your agility is too low to make use of this
>Destruction
Can be useful early on, but falls off later if not high level
>Conjuration
Can be fun on any character. Depends if you think it's fun
>Mysticism
Not for you
>Alchemy
Decent skill if you'll focus on it. Same deal as enchant but more useful early
>Security/sneak
Not a thief. Low agi
>merchantile/speech
speech OK as minor
>>339495812
>armorer
>useless

>>339495969
It is famm. You could just use like 10 prongs to repair something with low armorer instead of 2 of them with high armorer. If your idea is you can repair broken stuff and sell it back for money, that's just contributing to breaking the game like alchemy or enchant, not really giving you anything of value in gameplay.
>>339493451
I'd go for apprentice over atronach for sure if you are new. The Lady if you're gonna keep illusion. The Lover if you aren't because it'll increase your chance to hit a fair bit. The Steed if you don't mind having a hard time hitting early on and want more speed instead.
Do you ever feel like all your characters end up being the same?
With so many skill slots but such a small array of skills, almost all of my classes end up being a Spellsword-dude who eventually becomes Mad Wizard-dude. I start making my class, pick a weapon and armor skill, and then it's just, okay, I'll start adding magic skills to take up slots because all I really need is that one weapon and armor.
Sure, there are technically lots of skills, but with the combat ones, there's no reason to use more than just 1 weapon and 1 armor. Whereas with magic, every skill is useful, even combined with others. Occasionally I'll try to role-play and add Speechcraft and Mercantile, but they just end up taking up a slot, and sit at low levels until I inevitably pay to train them up.

Well that leads to the issue of having redundant skills. A lot of classes will have too many weapons or armor skills. More than one armor skill, you end up just using one, and the other just becomes a skill you pay to raise, essentially just paying for levels. Same when you have too many weapons.
