Cool design and abilities, barely a character. And whenever games try to give her intricate backstories and "emotions" it's absolutely terrible.
She's best when she's a relatively stoic bounty hunter saving the universe because she can.

A badass bounty hunter who exterminates legions of space pirates like they're nothing and dosen't afraid of anything. A stone cold killer and a stong independent woman who dosen't care about male attention. Samus dosen't play by the rules and while she always gets the job done she's also something of a loose cannon who has a habit of doing things her way if she thinks it's the right thing to do. I'm ignoring Other M and speaking of Other M my interpretation of Samus would be hesitant to obey Adam if she does at all and an order to turn off heat protection would result in her laughing and then ignoring the instruction. Ridley would also be buisness as usual and while losing the infant metroid was tragic she wouldn't keep going on and on about the loss of her "baby."

Focus should probably be shifted to another character.
Metroid has a case of Star Wars where you can only stuff so much backstory before what we know is canon in the end. In terms of her universe, Samus could very well be considered a villain for what she did in Fusion, and I feel that's why we haven't had a proper Metroid 5, they don't know what to do with her character and that assumption.
