As an FPS player can someone explain to me why this game is so popular?
It's always in the top five of most played games on steam next to all the other action games.

It has mass appeal. Its only downside is that it's weird balance niche requires it to play fucking slowly in turn mode.
Autism, literally. The whole game is just making small decisions every turn, to guide the game along a path you pre-planned, so you keep choosing the paths that would take you towards that goal. It's all small shit to make you occupied, and the completion of a building/unit/everything else gives a feeling of progress.
Very similar to Minecraft IMO. I've actually been playing it quite a lot lately, 405 hours in total.

If you're open to the idea of playing a game that's totally different from your FPS games, you could give it a shot. It's quite addictive if you have the attention span for it.
