I'd like to play this, but it just seems so overwhelming. Even just getting BYOND to work takes a lot of shit to do, and then when I get ingame there is just way too much shit to know.I did play one match as assistant in which I walked into church, the priest came screaming to me and since I didn't know how to respond I just moonwalked out of there. Then I went and tested equipping different kinds of stuff which the sec didn't like so I got cuffed and dragged around the whole game.
Great game but the static namers, powergamers, and admins that feel the need to do sec's job for them really drag down the experience.
Well that and Byond itself.I'm not optimistic about Ion.

It depends on how beta you are, but like the other people say you only have ONE job. Sure someone might put you on the spot like "All the doctors are dead, someone help this man!" but if you pick remote jobs that are away from most havoc, such as growing plants, taking cargo orders, or hell even serving drinks in the bar, your job should be rather low tension while you observe and learn the ropes.

Gameplay's got its own kinks and the codebase is a little behind both /vg/ and /tg/station, but not as much as some codebases.
Mileage may vary with some of the meme features like dakimakuras, meeseeks, and cuhrazy hybrid chemistry system. Combat is also a little complex with stuns and disablers both having significant nerfs.
