>PC has 6GB RAM
>Literally have noting running in background
>Hovers around 50+% RAM used or more when idling
How do I fix this /v/? This is bullshit.
Uninstall your operating system.
Check processes and sort by ram usage.
virus? or does it really matter if it hovers around 50%? if its not slowing your pc down or reaching 100% then who cares
You have malware. Probably a bitcoin miner installed.
Install Gentoo.
Around 3gb ram usage is normal these days. Should have gone with 8gb bro
>>339446539
Seems normal to me. That's what I'm at. But I'm on Windows10and Firefox is open and using about 500 MB
>>339446750
If it hits over 50%, shit sometimes stutters or if audio plays, it makes a brief buzz sound.
>>339446841
>>339446750
I used my virus scanner and did a full scan and found nothing.
>>339446539
1) post your processes in Memory order dipshit
2) meanwhile download and install MalwareBytes and do each of the scans, starting with a Hyper Scan
>>339446841
If it were a bitcoin miner his CPU would be maxed out.
Also post your process list sorted by RAM usage.

>>339446952
>Check processes
>Firefox keeps climbing on memory
Jesus Christ, there a fix? Looks like a memory leak. There a way to fix FireFox memory leak?
>>339447234
Close the browser every now and then if it bothers you so much
OK heres the process so far. How to fix Firefox?
>>339447234
Nope. Get used to it. I generally have Firefox hover at around 1.5-2GB when in use depending on how long it's been running. Either buy more RAM, switch browsers or restart Firefox regularly.
>>339447448
How many tabs/extensions are you using?
>>339446539
download more ram
>>339446539
>>Literally have noting running in background
>has firefox open
>probably with 50 tabs too
>>339447559
Also forward your ports.
Fresh install windows 10
Have you tried checking you're using the newest drivers? :^)
Dude you probably have a virus. Get Nortons
>>339446539
>only have 8GB of ram
>>339447448

>there's a fucking firefox
>>339446539
had same problem , Stupid simple solution , its some files thumbinal not loading in your desktop , clean it up and you are set i mean delete the file
>>339446539
this seems about normal ram usage to me. fresh screenshot for proof.
buy more ram, 6gb is a little low nowadays.
>>339446539
>HURRR DUURRRR HOW DOES COMPUTERS WORKING
fucking idiot
>>339447474
>switch browsers
They all have atrocious memory leaks. There is currently no good browser.
>>339447234
Are you using adblock plus? That seems to eat up a lot of memory. If so, switch to ublock origin
>>339446539
>He fell for the PC gaming meme
PC gaming is shit because a new problem always shows up unless you have a $500 CPU 1080, graphical card and 32gb of ram. Even then you're still configuring new shit every other hour.
>>339447805
I am using ublock origin.
HELP
>>339447474
Might buy more RAM down the road. Might get either 8-12. RAM is cheap nowadays.
>>339446539
I don't think it matters unless your peaking. Unused ram is wasted ram.
>look at tasks
>windows update is using nearly an entire gigabyte of RAM
How in the fuck is that even possible?
>tfw playing games on a potato
That CPU spike is from opening the task manager
RAM is for using. Pretty sure newer Windows preloads shit it thinks you might use into RAM to speed things up. If you load up a game or something that uses a shitload, it'll unload that other stuff to make room.

It was more than that before the power hiccup 48 days ago

You turn your computer off?
>>339448380
There's at least 40 processes that do nothing but keep your computer running.
Start ending them haphazardly, and your computer slows down, fucks up, and eventually crashes. I don't know if they patched it or not, but there used to be a process that if you terminated it during a write, caused an instant head crash, ruining the drive.
Halp?!
>>339448925
We would halp if you post your processes list.
>>339448769
I sometimes update drivers and stuff. Usually have a max uptime of about 2 weeks.
>>339447234
>>339447474
I don't have Chrome above like 100MB per tab.
>>339446539
take a course in compsci you ignorant, illiterate piece of shit.
Starting with Windows 7, Windows starts using empty RAM to retain frequently used data, and consequently to have it available faster upon request, on the basis that unused RAM is wasted RAM. This data is then only dumped when another program starts to request more RAM than what's left.
>>339447448
Explorer shouldn't use more than 28-30MB.
>>339446981
Try a different virus scanner. These days viruses are caught by the scanner the programmer forgot to account for.
Also, try Spybot for spyware.
Why do you keep your computer on for so long?
>>339446539
Upgrade to Windows 10.
>>339449835
Why do you turn off your computer?
>>339447448
why do you have a shitty uninstaller program?
>>339450020
Do you pay an electricity bill?
Keeping your computer on while you sleep could be costing you $20 a month.
>>339449542
Adding to this:
If the RAM usage actually results in performance issues, not only "my ram looks full", go to your services, and disable "SysMain", describition "Superfetch". This will probably cause slower boot speeds and may slow some program loading times down, but should fix the problem.
>>339450531
Sleep and hibernation doesn't break uptime counter.
>>339448769
You don't have a server for all your 24x7 server needs? Windows desktop is literally a console with photoshop these days.

Good luck editing 500 lines of the registry to fix this.
>>339447863
if you're a retard yeah sure you should stay with consoles
you shouldn't blame computers for your retardation though
feelsfineman
>>339451076
You can fix it by disabling one service, which is pretty simple.
But the best part is that for most systems, there isn't actually anything here that needs fixing. People just don't get ram.
>>339451076
consoles don't even give you a choice lmfao
you're just stuck with shit hardware and no way to optimize the system

I wouldnt try to explain it to them either. This is obviously a false flagging thread. Why wouldnt you post tech issues in /g/?
Why would you ask shitposting general how to fix something? I mean it worked out so well for people in the past right...
requesting how do magnets work.jpg if anyone has it
>>339447234
>using adblock
hostsblock + noscript is all you need
>>339451642
uBlock Origin works great.
>>339451450
>Why wouldnt you post tech issues in /g/?
Because /g/ is shit. It's been shit for years. Or rather, even shittier than it used to be, ever since a good part of the smart userbase migrated to /sci/.
On /v/, you still have the odd chance of meeting an intelligent person in a sea of morons.
>>339451450
I get what you're saying but the fact that his query was actually answered and discussed reasonably in this thread goes against what you're saying.
>>339447234
memoryfox
>>339447448
It's so full of crap that you should just format and start again. Don't install any of that crap this time. Use Palemoon instead of Firefox. It's a clone of Firefox from when Firefox was still not total bloatware shit and is compatible with extensions.
