You only feel rush towards the beginning. Once you reach the first winter, you should be properly acclimated to time constraints and by the first new year following said winter, you'll fit into the groove.

For any new players, don't chop down all your grass until you make a silo. If you must clear space for farming, do so, but half your field should be wild at least for the first and second years. That's where you'll farm your wood from.
