Even though it's just a rehash of fallout 3 made 2 years later, it's praised because it's not made by Bethesda and is in fact made by My Favorite Developer™ even though they have to piggyback off a much more successful and talented developer to make anything anyone gives a shit about.

Explosives are great for melee builds. I only ever use them if I'm pinned down and don't want to run right into gunfire.

just avoid them. i wanted to like the fallout games so much, played a bit of 3, got pretty far into new vegas, about 25 hours into fallout 4, and they're all a mess.
fallout 3/NV are similar enough but NV is a slightly improved F3. F4 is a little bit smoother but completely shallow and it dumbs things down a bit too much. F3/NV are buggy as hell and have broken quests that require you to use the dev console just to progress in the story
