You have exactly 3 options:
nVidia Shadowplay (nVidia only)
AMD VCE (AMD only)
Intel QuickSync (comes with modern Intel processors that have an integrated GPU)
OBS supports all of them, though I'm not sure if you have to switch to a particular fork or if mainline now includes support for them by default. Shadowplay and VCE will lead to decreased FPS but QuickSync uses the iGPU of the CPU and therefore allows you to keep higher framerates on the dedicated GPU.

People recommend shadowplay because it virtually has absolutely no impact on your in-game framerate since it's not using your cpu but the hardware x264 encoder on the card
I think AMD has an equivalent as well but I don't remember the name
Using OBS or whatever introduces some CPU overhead so if you're a bitch like me bothered about slight input jittering/lag then shadowplay/amdequivalent is the way to go

The decrease is like 1-3FPS in my experience and this is in extremely HDD heavy, really GPU heavy games that use one CPU.
of course saving on a dedicated HDD.
