It's a worse game with less actual advanced graphics. Crysis was always shitposted as a tech demo but BF is -literally- just that.

It looks nicer in screenshots but it's not very impressive. That's why it runs above 30fps on consoles.

Every single snow flake in the game is physically rendered, meaning if you throw a grenade the displaced air will move it. This goes for a lot of other particles and models in the game too.

Dice games have good destruction and stuff but Crysis is still overall better.

Is playing battlefront worth it? I don't mind shallow multiplayer gameplay. I have over 120 hours in MW2 on PC.

Red faction Guerilla did it better and was on PS3/X360

If they didn't spend all the money and time hyping up the graphics, how would they sell a new engine, a new box, a new graphics card, and most importantly, the same games you've already played with a fresh coat of paint.

At below 720p if you wanted 30fps. 1080p wasn't remotely close to a norm in 2007.

That's using mods galore and the game is beyond maxed out. The PS4 would shit itself trying to play it.

Nah PS4 or Xone could easily handle a game like Crysis (1) at max details with all of those physics mods.

As much as people dont want to admit it Crysis isnt even the game to test your new PC anymore. Its just an old game with some impressive stuff but really nothing special now. Like Half life 2 was 4 years ago.

>>
Because it's a transitional period. Believe it or not, we reached the peak of what we could do with traditional graphics techniques a few years ago. Now it's all about physically based rendering, which requires a major shift in how games are designed on a technical and artistic level. Proper PBR allows everything to look massively better, from the lights to the materials, regardless of whether the game's art style is realistic or not.
But even this can't save a game from poor art direction or performance constraints. And when it comes down to it, the best looking games in any generation are borne on smoke and mirrors. and flashy graphical effects. Graphics can't be quantified any more because the tools are there for any random person to implement PBR techniques into their game. Just look at this Doom 3. This is the lowest you can get and it still looks eye pleasing.
>>
Crysis is butt ugly I can't believe people still think it looks good.

>>339347810
Brb buying a PS4. Gotta support mirrors in modern games.
>>
>>339347849
The PS4's max potential is to play PS3 games that ran at 720p 30fps(with drops naturally) at 1080p 60fps(most games are 1080p 30fps though, MGSV was one of the rare exceptions).

Crysis 1 on consoles was a downgraded piece of shit that ran on average at 20fps.

Crysis 1 with mods runs significantly worse than the vanilla game maxed out and the console version of it was a hilarious joke running on a downgraded engine.

Don't kid yourself, follow the logic and evidence and figure out how you are wrong.

No, blackfire mod does it better, lets you config that ingame, shadows color grade and other stuff, but it dosent have the suit powers upgrade like walljumping, damage (what makes you see or aim like shit(i really like that feature)) and bpm mechanic, wich could kill you by just run too much, there is also a slowmo, but its add more OP to an already OP character, but for cinematic entrances is pretty awesome.

Graphics peaked in the late 90s. Honestly, games shouldn't be more graphically complex than, say, Unreal. All the extra bullshit, effects, megatexturing, and other fluff just gets in the way of GAMEPLAY. Which is why you're playing the fucking game to begin with, remember, kids?

>people seriously think photorealistic graphics could have been achieved in the decade since Crysis

Not even speaking to the technological part of rendering everything, but have you anons ever actually considered the sheer amount of effort required on the art team's part to achieve such a level? You have a year or two to finish all the art assets, of which there are such a ridiculous amount per game. You'd have to hire hundreds of artists and give them years each to finish all the art just to make something look significantly better on a per-object basis. I regularly work in photorealism with graphite, you see diminishing results very very quickly.

Gen5 to Gen6 was a huge leap, and gen6 to gen7 was also a notable leap in terms of raw graphical fidelity. Gen7 to Gen8 also had a solid jump but the games still don't look how people expected a decade ago. They're limited by hardware as much as the art team and development time. You can have a shitload of well designed objects now which definitely adds a whole hell of a lot go different scenes and areas in games. I mean compare TLOU to Uncharted 1 and you'll see a massive difference in how good the two look. The difference isn't just the textures and fidelity but how many objects could be rendered.

The problem is once you approach photorealism it requires so many more hours to make everything look realistic the closer to realistic it looks. In a graphite piece I could do 80% of the work in 40 hours and spend another 40 hours reaching 100%. It's a crazy amount of work beyond just the limits of technology.

You'll never see something looking like Avatar until not only can technology render that level of quality in real time instead of hours and days per frame, but when art teams are also capable of delivering that much quality of content in any appreciable amount of time.

A lot of games look better than Crysis now, but a lot of games still don't.

Many games suffer from shit art. While technically they are using high resolution textures and high poly models, they still look like ass. Look at MKX or Shadows of Murder for example. Tons of textures that are 4 and even 8k, but they look like 512x512 textures with sharpening filters on them.
>>
>>339379648
Unlimited Detail is described by Euclideon as a form of point cloud Search engine indexing system, which uses a large number of individual points to create models, instead of a more traditional polygon mesh. According to their description, the engine uses a search algorithm to determine which of these points are visible on-screen, and then displays only these points. On a 1024x768 display, for example, the engine would display only 786,432 visible points in each frame. As the engine is displaying the same number of points in every frame, the level of geometric detail provided is limited only by the amount of memory needed to store the point cloud data, and the rendering speed is limited only by the screen resolution.

Euclideon have previously described their technique as being a voxel rasterizer,[6] but decided to use their own terminology such as "3D atoms" and "point cloud", saying that "that word [voxels] doesn't have the prestige in the games industry that it enjoys in medicine and the sciences".[7]

From their wikipedia page. I mean shit, have you guys ever heard of occlusion? Do you understand why n64 quake didn't have it?

This is the sort of pseudo-science used to scam money out of people illiterate in the field. It might as well be solar roadways.

If there were actually such an 'infinitely better' method, don't you think an actual game developer would have tried it?
