As someone who just recently replayed it, It's not worth it.
its generally seen as the worst doom, and with very good reason.
The first 10 levels are the only levels worth playing if at all, the rest is just horribly designed bullshit that will just piss you off.
if you really want to tear your asshole apart with some really good .wads, I heavily recommend you try out Alien vendetta, and hell revealed 2 if you haven't already. The later levels are complete bullshit but it's a slaughterfest of the best kind

It's the only way. 2 HP is basically the baseline.

Not as bad as how Guncaster does it though.
I like the effort put into making everything, but with how overpowered everything is it's hard to really get invested in anything like that.

Weapons of Saturn is pretty cool. SUAB is different but pretty cool.

Revenant missiles are scary. There's nothing quite as dumb as running down several 90 degree turns, finally thinking you're safe, and then suddenly getting hit for 60% damage because it was still following you.

No but really I've always been shit at fps games. I've tried to get better, and like on consoles I generally dominate people but on PC I've just never been that good at fps. I have criminally bad reaction time, far above average reaction time.
I generally play turn based games or slower strategy games as a result since competitively I cannot compete in anything realtime.
Fighters, fps, rts, hell even mobas I feel artificially handicapped. I'm not sure if something's not wrong with my nerves outright because I've tried to get better about this and I just can't.

I don't think you get it, what I'm saying.
My reaction time is bad, sup par by far, almost a quarter of a second slower than the average.
Which in turn makes it harder to hit things especially if they're moving fast or if I'm moving fast. On console I've got the auto aim and everything slow so because I try hard I can generally stomp console plebs.

On PC people try just as hard as me, many try a lot harder, and have much better reaction times as well. So I can't compete. Even on console if it's something like Street Fighter or Smash, I can't compete.

Even in singleplayer stuff fast movement throws me off, because again, my reaction time is beyond awful. In turn, I'm awful at anything fast paced, very much including Doom.

It's mostly because some people really push it as being some sort of "patch" or upgrade to the original game that makes it the definitive version of it, when it's clearly not. Brutal Doom is entertaining for sure, but it's not how the game was meant to be played.

Also, the creator of Brutal Doom stole a lot of assets from other content creators without crediting them, which is a big nono within the community.

It's fairly recent, but definitely something to follow.

As for Overload, I played the demo, and will certainly follow it (I'll be following all of these projects - Descent 1 and 2 are my two favorite games ever made). I think it will have a great single-player experience (the robots already are quite interesting) - yet, it doesn't have the same speed and turn-on-a-dime feel as the originals (there's too much inertia). I'm sure they will keep tweaking this stuff, but I wonder if the multiplayer experience will be anything like D1 / D2.

The lore is Doomguy is so fucking feared in Hell they made a fucking mythology for him, calling him the Doomslayer, fearing his next visit, as every time he visits he fucking kills everything

In order to build that kind of reputation he had to have gone to Hell and back hundreds of times between Doom 64 and Doom 4 (therefore, every PWAD)

The demons realize it's fucking impossible to kill the Doomguy, but they manage to seal him inside a tomb. Unfortunately for them, Hell is connected to every dimension, and an expedition from another dimension's UAC recovers the Doomguy and keeps him in cold storage for a rainy day

By the time of Doom 4, he has lost his mind, knowing nothing but violence. He doesn't give a rat's ass about new UAC's new excuse for experimenting with Hell, he's heard it hundreds of times before, he doesn't care, he knows dealing with Hell always ends badly. He ignores the new UAC CEO's pleading and goes to kill demons and break all of the UAC's hell-tech.

Possibly. The lore is kept pretty vague. Whether it's the same Doomguy in all of Hell's mythology, or just a different marine from a different dimension showing up at least once in Hell's history is left unsaid. This is what I don't get after playing the game a few times.

The "betrayer", as stated in a few "backstory" nodes in hell, is a demon that made new doomguy his armor.

I never saw any mention to doomguy betraying them, or any mention to his son (He never had a son that was mentioned in the original games).

That, and it's hard to picture Doomguy making a deal with the devil.

A number of people are saying that his "son" was brought back as the Icon of Sin in doom II, but that makes no fucking sense. It isn't mentioned anywhere in Doom II.

Some official wads did the pistol start (Master Levels) but for the base games you carry the weapons over between levels in episodes.
Pistol start is for advanced players, but intent wise it's whatever the level creators set.

I've been playing Doom literally since the shareware version was released. I've played every official Doom many times over, and I've enjoyed literally all of them. I love unmodded Doom, I loved that silly mod that put CoD weapons into the game, I loved brutal Doom, I loved Plutonia, TNT, as well as all the other silly popular mods for graphics and weapons.

I dunno what's wrong with the rest of you autismos, but Doom is fucking great no matter what mod you use as long as it doesn't literally break the game.
