Andy and Robert are probably the most hated characters since they cuck a lot of waifufags.
I disliked Andy for a long time because my first exposure to KOF was Capcom Vs. SNK. Terry and Joe got in so Andy was clearly inferior. Then I actually played him more and he's fun as shit.
Also I realized pretty recently how stupid I was for using Capcom Vs. SNK to judge the worth of characters. The game puts in Vice but not Mature? Fuck Off. Mature is way better.

Ryo may come off as a clone, but he's superior in terms of eventually turning the shotoclone concept on its head by having literally no-range projectiles, a death-counter punch, and canon-beating the shit out of Geese. Also, he has a baller-ass motorcycle. Ryu's biggest accomplishment was creating the lamest fucking fighting style that tens (maybe hundreds if we count dojin/indie games) of fighting games have ripped off (SNK included) and used (even Smash Bros 64, holy shit) because a good chunk of the fighting buyer populous seem to go apeshit and refuse to play a game where it doesn't exist (meme images aside, there is some actual truth to this. Think about it: how many times have casuals asked you "How do you throw fireballs?"), including what could have been Street Fighter 3 (at least to an extent, if Sean had been kept the way he ended up). Oh yeah, and he also had an alt-form which was just a shittier akuma. Wew.
Honestly, all things considered, I would have preferred they kept utilizing the MvC1 approach to Ryu, able to change forms and eliminates all other shotos simultaneously. Just give him a third form where he acts like Vs series sakura (angled hadoken, barrier shouoken, etc.), and he's actually pretty neat as a fighter. Instead it seems like he keeps getting one-upped and even loses some moves to other characters (such as the Denjin, though I'm glad he got it back (sort of) in SF5). Also, the shin shoryuken is boring as fuck.

In SFA3, he starts it with a sliding elbow to the stomach. If you weren't spaced with it properly, it would only end with a regular shoryuken and get shit damage. If you nailed it exactly spaced (and it was annoying how precise you had to be for this), he'd start a regular shoryuken but then switch arms for the final hitting shoryuken that faces the viewer. I don't think it was ever used often because of how hard it was to space for full damage.

My problem with the first CvS is that it should be called SFvsKOF, the only exceptions were morrigan '10 years using the same sprite' aensland, raiden (at the time) and 2 samsho characters.
